Overwatch should have "High Resolution Texture Pack"

I get that in a game like Overwatch graphical performance > quality, but it frustrates me to see ugly textures up close especially in close-up of characters, too often in highlight intros. This is why I propose Blizzard to provide us the option to download “High Resolution Texture Pack” for Overwatch, something some games like Watch Dogs 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Middle-Eath Shadow of War and even Fallout 4 do.
Yes, the storage size shall increase a lot and so what, it is an acceptable compromise to have better graphics especially now with newest console generation. Blizzzaaaaaard, make this happen, please!

OW2 seems to have higher poly count for the characters so it is very likely that the textures will get a buff as well (at least the ones for the heroes)

Yeah I get that Overwatch 2 must have graphical improvements and since there will (still) be Overwatch 1 content this shall have the respective graphical improvements, textures included, as well. It is part of the bare minimum expected.
But I still think Blizzard, assuming Overwatch and Overwatch 2 will be separate games, should release High-Res Texture Pack for the former.

They are confirmed not to be separate. Overwatch 2 will replace Overwatch 1

Yeah, that was the plan Jeff Kaplan told us. But with him gone, this plan might change, naturally for the worse.
But if Overwatch is going to be literally updated/upgraded to Overwatch 2 for everyone [with all new content paid, obviously (all PvE, new skins, maps, Heroes…)] this issue I had brought here will necessarily be addressed, although it remains to be seen how much Overwatch 1 Legacy content will be actually improved, especially textures.
But if Overwatch and Overwatch 2 remain separate games, as I fear may happen after the loss of our Jeff, then Blizzard really should provide us with this High Texture Resolution Pack I had mentioned.

It won’t. It will make no sense to do that unless they scrap everything and start over with completely new heroes.

No one is going to be so stupid to buy the same PvP twice.

Yes, this game runs super well rn
Apex legends maybe 70 fps on 1080p
This game 180fps on 1440P
I could afford less frames for an amazing looking game

Higher res textures aren’t even a problem for modern video cards they could easily do it

I would rather them make bushes/tree foliage/hiding things a fixed feature for all Graphic levels before they work on Textures. lol

Been wishing this for a while too. Some stuff barely holds up at 1080p.

I don’t think this will ever happen. OW1 will be updated to OW2 (but new stuff will be locked behind paywall - PvE, hero redesigns…)

It was stated from the time Overwatch 2 was announced that Overwatch will carry on for free into Overwatch 2 with no one being left behind and all will be playing together in the same multiplayer.

While they’re at it, let us use the higher quality models without having to increase environmental clutter.

Well, not all plataforms are great for that. Even some pcs these days doesn’t have enough storage or vídeo capabilities for better textures.

Switch runs poorly the game, some pcs even have hard time to maintain the bare minimum without huge visual compromises. Most of the players play on low to have more fps and less input lag.

While I agree that more choices are better, they planned an improvement on ow2, even if both games have different clients they will use the same engine because they will have cross-play ow1 and o2. Using the same engine means that any upgrade they do in one will work in the other.

So yeah, with more visual improvements on ow2 they also need to keep the older presets for legacy support. At least to maintain switch as viable plataform, reducing 2 players help on switch but still several things needs to be addressed.

I 100% agree, sucks to see pixels in your hero using your favorite skin

wtf are you trying to say

Ugh the new Soldier 76 highlight into where it shows a close-up of the super low-res steak texture…

That switch had poor performance for several time, but improved a lot after several patchs. I had in the past matches with about a minute and minute and half of “whisp fights” but things got better and the plataform got more playable, at least on PC crossplay those kind of stuff didn’t happened anymore, but also I played tabletop mode while charging(which could improve the system performance itself). Reducing the number of players effectively reduces the usage of internal storage loads, RAM and VRAM. Because will have less things to render, deal and manage while you play and less burden if folks play on tv mode or purely handheld mode.

If you have 12 players on memory now you will get 10. Which means a reduction of resource usage. It’s a simple math.

bro sorry but i cannot decipher what you are trying to say here lmao
