Overwatch should copy paladins more

my game history to exclude the argument of im being biased Paladins: 2016-2018 Overwatch: 2019-2024/03 Paladins: now

I stopped playing overwatch on march because a lot of things, and paladins was in a good place except the servers problems now.
Last week i tried overwatch, couldnt play more than 3 matches, the game basics are flawed, and probably when marvel rivals arrive it will get the majority of the playerbase of overwatch AND paladins

Do note english isnt my first language and i can fix errors

The problems i face when playing overwatch that paladins do better

Heal

its so powerful on overwatch, the dps passive should scale with time as paladins, im a main support in ow with more than 1k hours, and a master, and i know healing is too powerful and should be balanced to only be powerful behind cover (15% is nothing). To balance some tanks like hog, queen, even reaper etc Make self healing immune to cauterize

Solo tanking

Solo tanking is stressing, you're in a binary world being a frontline, or a peeler; a raid boss or melting instantly; **getting countered by the entire enemy team** or your supports.

Rush and Flashpoint

Rush and flashpoint are horrible and takes away the essence of ow: **teamwork**

Hitscans

I know that paladins is more MOBA while overwatch is more FPS, but why hitscans are better than projectiles? **By definiton hitscan should be weaker** cuz they are easier cuz of not having travel time

Mercy and Ana

Never in paladins i raged with characters, but in overwatch, these 2 are THE DEVIL ON EARTH Bro seriously, idc if they are meta or not in GM, on masters everyone picks mercy and make the life of the dps trash, or ana with tanks Mercy should be a beginner character that is worse than others supports, ana should have her skills even more nerfed on tanks

More rounds

This one is optional but it would be better if we had more time to think on the match, in paladins you can have at least 4 rounds, which you think, communicate etc. In overwatch you just go straight till the end and good lucky, specially on rush and flashpoint

A vent Overwatch copied paladins in the past with 5v5, bigger hitboxes, cauterize, so i think this wont be a problem I literally left behind overwatch but it still has a place in my heart, probably this wont do much, but i

Ana can’t get to high ground on her own, nor does she have mobility.

Anti is just her niche as a support. It is very much needed in a game where, as you just stated (your own words), “Heal; its so powerful on overwatch”.

Sleep is already reduced on tanks. Giving her less room to operate when used on a tank + it’s a slow projectile, lol you can dodge or bait it.

Ew Paladins is too ugly to copy.

OW 2 should really copy OW1

By the time you reach certain skill level and understanding of the game, you’ll learn what each hero can, and cannot do. And specially why roles are so important

But if you are happy with Paladins and never rage, it is because you haven’t achieved yet a high skill level there, or simply happens that every character is as generic as any other from Valorant or The Finals

Lots of people don’t like Paladins. I’m actually somewhat typical. If people want to play Paladins it’s right there. They can go play it. I want to play Overwatch though not Paladins.

Yes actually. It was better before season 9 for me. My favorite seasons were 2 and 3.

Healing scales with match time in Paladins? Did I read that right? If so: I didn’t think there was a worse way of reducing readily available high HPS in OW than the current DPS passive, but it turns out I was wrong. Having differing impact at different points in time sounds horrible to me. :-1:

If healing is too high, lower specific characters’ HPS. Don’t go all the way around the houses.


The likes of FP and Push (FP especially imo) aren’t what any of us are hoping for when we queue up for a match, but I’ll say this in their favour: at least they’re not a four round Havana or CR. I don’t like the idea of making FP or Push last 15m to 20m, or KotH best out of five. If anything, I’d prefer some way to restrict escort maps to two rounds.

5v5 was a paladins thing too
How were your favorite seasons the ones that destroyed ow1 identity?

And thats why you dont understand why cauterize even exists and the identity of supports
Reducing healing without cauterize just makes supports even more healbots, cauterize incentives to supports to heal when the team isnt being shot while behind cover recover their health fast
And all of this while teaching bad players to posicion themselfs, before the cauterize on ow2 a lot of tanks just sitted on point with 5 players shootung them, died, and then blamed the sup for not healing 018292739283 damage

Cauterize is necessary in a hero shooters where supports heal so much like ow

You can see that cauterize wasnt necessary when mercy was the only support that “healed”
With ana cauterize should have been implemented, cuz even ana has a cauterize and she is mandatory till this day, with the only character that can help teamates affected by it is kiriko

5v5 was a necessary evil because of not having enough tank players. Most people preferred 6v6. I was talking about my favorite seasons of OW2. But even in OW1 somewhere around season 3 or 4 was probably best, whatever season it was in December 2016 that was the best.

Yeah, i agree with you that overwatch WAS better
No role lock, balance between roles and without burst healing

The problem is that ow changed and on ana launch overwatch wasnt it anymore, till we get sombra, brig, bap and sigma
The problem wasnt just the characters, but the philosofy of overwatch, and now what you call overwatch is nothing like overwatch from 2016
Overwatch is on a identity crisis and try to find one copying other games, (paladins i.e)
Well if this trend will continue at least do it right
And i only advocate for more paladins mechanics if we stay on 5v5, 6v6 didnt have most of these problems

Ana was super OP on launch but it took awhile for people to realize that because she was also fun. I actually enjoyed that time a lot. The Beyblade meta was very fun.

Brig and Sigma are a couple of the most game breaking heroes to ever be added to the game. Both are responsible ultimately for fundamental changes to the game. I love playing Sigma now but in OW1 he was completely busted and never got balanced for 6v6 ever. Ironically in 5v5 he’s everything a tank should be despite being basically unchanged from his 6v6 self. Brig was the most OP hero ever released but did eventually get balanced after something like 16 nerfs.

If we continue in 5v5, I think leaning into the shooter aspects more than the MOBA aspects is actually the right move. Paladins I don’t think is a great roadmap for OW2 personally. I don’t want the game to become COD either, but also I think that it shouldn’t go too much into the Paladins direction.

You accuse me of not knowing why the DPS passive exists while at the same time quoting the reason the DPS passive exists and then going on to acknowledge it yourself. If Ana-esque healing is the problem, then sort out Ana-esque healing.

You can’t push better designed supports into being bigger healbots because their very design prevents that. How are Lucio and Zen going to become healbots, exactly?

And even various supports that may have some questionable designs have come away with having their in-combat healing nerfed by 20% and shrugging. Bap? I already belted out as many grenades as I could while weaving in damage. It’s not any more possible to healbot in S9+ as it was before. Kiriko? There’s a recharge period on paper, she can’t healbot any harder than she could before S9. Illari and Moira? Resource based healing, so they can’t healbot any harder than they already were. If anything, Moiras were emboldened to do more damage than healbotting.

Nah, it’s only a minority of the support cast that suffer from the problem of lower HPS causing them to healbot more. There’s no need for a system change that adds more complications when the characters themselves can be addressed.

That would be good for those particular tanks to be able to heal through antiheal too.
Just change antiheal into a form of cauterize I think. Then Ana stops controlling lobbies and doesn’t get rewarded for chucking out a nade 24/7 on a hog.

They’re generally all rush favored maps too, not very dive friendly, always favor a few set number of tanks

There’s a thing you can build into throughout the match that’s basically the dps passive, but it’s 90% instead of 20%. You know, because healing doesn’t already feel bad enough.
