There are overwhelming amounts of smurfs in every game. In overwatch they may be more noticeable because of the fact that they can solo carry games when normally overwatch is a team game. G

Smurfs only exist because of Match Making Rating, which algorithmically handicaps matches. Smurfs are trying (in vain) to skirt the system.

Well yeah, but it’s not the MMR, it’s the system that decides how much your MMR goes up or down.

Without MMR there is no direct way to measure where a player should roughly be, even if the current system were to be overthrown, the other numbers that will measure it will take over the term.

Or well, you aren’t wrong because those categories make it so there can be smurfs.
If there were no ranks then it wouldn’t be that smurfs are in the wrong category
since there wouldn’t be any category.

Of course this is true but I think a big difference is most online games with a competitive aspect acknowledged it’s a problem and try to implement solutions. But Blizzard won’t even respond to any threads discussing smurfing no matter how large it becomes.

Is no one going to say anything about the spelling and grammar mistakes

Cause like you guys would totally correct them if it was a post you didn’t like/agree with

BLi$$ARD don’t give a youknowaword what do you think about this subject. If everyone only have 1 single account then how they could multiple profit from this game ?

Console is where smurfing is way out of hand. Everyone is doing it, so much so half your games have one or more.

They make no money from console alts, so maybe there is some insentive for them to address it, so their game doesn’t become complete garbage.

Right now the console community are so fed up of smurfs playing at the wrong rank and nothing being done about it that they start doing it themselves.

here is your free business lesson for the day.

blizzard will license out the rights to companies to produce items (shirts, hoodies, big wobbly heads, character models etc) and receive revenue from that avenue as well.

since blizzard has multiple departments, they may want to actually take a loss from one of those said departments to reduce the future tax liability from their taxable income.

blizzard may even purposely take multiple losses from some of their business units so that they have a carry forward amount into years when they know they will be releasing a large IP title.

lesson over.

Indeed.

Something else which people are overlooking is thier public relations. Organisations know the importance of maintaining a reputable reputation, not doing so will impact sales heavily. Unfortunately for Blizzard they had the wrong people in the wrong places, as such the damage is done, their reputation is tarnished and their share prices took a massive hit and it was purchased by Microsoft.

Now I really hope they get around to fixing Overwatch’s reputation, right now it’s in the toilet, but if they don’t fix it they may as well pull the flush.

yup, purchased for more than than blizzard was previously valued at. $68.7B which correlates to $95/share
their current shares are trading at $80.81

IDK if there is a smurf problem in most games. How many games have you just rolled the other team in?
They prob thought you were smurfs.

Then the next game or so you get rolled so hard you can’t make it past the choke, by smurfs of course:)

It is just a bad matchmaking system paired with people off rolling or not realizing that their team comps a not very good against the enemy.
Refusing to think and switch ect

So, while there are some smurfs, most games are just players your rank either popping off or maybe even getting heals and tanks that push in and don’t feed hard.

That’s what I see anyway. Teams that work and teams that flame and feed.

a voice of reason i see! well done!

But isn’t Skill Rating supposed to be what approximates “where a players should roughly be?” Why do you think we have 2 numbers for this? And why is one of those numbers hidden? What do you think the hidden number is for?

Technically both these numbers should have a close link to each other, though SR is less precise and easier to read.

Do note that QP doesn’t even have a number, so removing MMR as a whole would remove the entire system for QP.

I don’t think it should be hidden either, though it’s a different system that is the issue, not the numbers that indicate your place in the ladder.

You’ll very rarely get actual smurfs in your games, the real issue is so many people have accounts they just don’t get about so they’ll happy troll/throw or just not even try in games and ruin the experience field the rest of their team

The smurf problem is easily fixed by making comp available at level 100.

Its really not. People would just change to buying preleveled accounts.
25 is already 16 hours, you really think that changing that to 64 hours is worth anyone’s time other than the people who will be selling level 100 accounts?

It’s way cheaper to buy a normal account than to buy a pre-leveled account.
And maybe you never met any account farming stacks but they’re AFK. So the more time they need to grind the more likely they are to be banned multiple times.

And like you said, farming an account for 64 hours isn’t worth a normal player’s time. It would greatly reduce the number of smurfs.

this might be so but ill tell you why that’s its not as big a difference as you seem to think below.

see, now this is where the real account sellers come in. they use bots. assuming they haven’t cracked down on it.
it was quite prevalent for a while, even in ranked to which I guess was to get accounts ready for bronze to gm but I can’t imagine it was any more effective than creating a script to avoid afk timer so im not too sure why they existed.

your taking that statement as it would reduce smurfs? dude
it would reduce everyone who doesn’t already have accounts.
like, you think anyone is sticking to the hot mess that is qp for 64 hours before being allowed to play the real game? nah dude. that’s how you kill a game for a new player.
