Overwatch only uses iGPU this update

quickly noting that i’m submitting this on behalf of my boyfriend who hates dealing with overwatch forums/support.
he’s playing on a laptop, and although overwatch recognizes his gpu in settings, it doesn’t use it. in task manager, it’s using 100% of his cpu but his dedicated gpu sits at 15% use.
the game is blurry, the menu screen runs at 21 fps. it won’t let him fullscreen overwatch on his main/external monitor, only on his laptop’s screen. if he tries to drag it over to his main/external monitor in windowed mode the fps drops even lower. the game doesn’t even list that he has more than one display, it only gives the option to use his laptop screen.
only overwatch is causing this problem, other gpu-required games such as lethal company run fine and fullscreen by default on his main/external monitor. overwatch ran fine for him yesterday, before this update dropped.
he’s playing on an Alienware m15 (i7-8750H, GTX 1070 Max-Q) Laptop.

In the GPU option in the video settings is the GTX 1070 selected? Which GPU is showing above the list of all the settings?

when i asked him, he said it had his 1070 selected in settings

Are you running Windows 10 or Windows 11?

windows 11. he just ran a windows update as an attempt to fix it but it didn’t fix the problem

In the GPU dropdown does he see both the integrated GPU and the discrete GPU?

thank you to u/Dkd-1643 for finding the fix for this. to quote them from their own thread,

Ok, I got it to work. There is a new setting where you can choose your GPU and mine shows up twice, except one being asterisked. I chose the non-asterisked version and restarted the game, and it worked.
