Overwatch not starting neither through Blizz app nor Steam

I have done everything. I have done everything!!! I would play Marvel Rivals but that game stinks - but it’s like you don’t want me to play overwatch.

I am ready to share my DxDiagnostic report - but seriously why can’t I launch the game, I have tried through battle net and steam but it still won’t launch!

Check Windows Defender for exclusions placed on Bnet.

It still doesn’t work even after I allowed those exclusions for battlenet

Same problem for me since today, turn out it’s Avast that is blocking the game for me.

Interesting… and you found a solution for it? I don’t have Avast though

You added only the exe or the install folder?

Both - I’ve tried everything I feel like. I saw in another post that someone submitted a DxDiagnost script or something and the tech support helped out with it.

Sorry to hear that.
When I had a similar problem, the only thing worked is to add both OW and Battle.net install folder to the exclusions list.

Thanks and no worries…
I’ve tried the following:

  1. Updated drivers.
  2. Reset the in-game options to prevent crashes and performance issues.
  3. Prioritized Overwatch in the details tab within Task Manager.
  4. Disabled my security program as well as added the folders as exclusions.
  5. Deleted the Battle.net Tools folder (done this before and re-downloaded)
  6. Run the repair tool.
  7. Closed all other programs.
  8. Downloaded it through Steam and the game actually opened up - then after I linked my battle net account to Overwatch, the game still wouldn’t launch!

You definitely put the work in. Maybe you can also try:

  • Running both OW exe as admin. (Maybe Bnet to.)
  • Add both exe to defender exploit protection
Ticking “override system settings”, and set all to off. (23 times.)
After apply, it should say: “23 system overrides” under the exe.

I’m not as brilliant as you, but if theres a visual breakdown of these steps please link haha

I’ll do my best

Haha! You can do it, I’m believing you!

The first is “Overwatch Launcher”, in the Overwatch folder, the second is “Overwatch” in the Overwatch → _ retail_ folder

  1. Right-click the exe and choose Properties.
  2. In the Compatibility tab, activate the option Run this program as an administrator.
  3. Click Apply, then OK.

Exploit protection: Read “Option two”.

Thank you - I followed this. However, it didn’t work right away, and all I did was delete an additional folder I saw, then re-installed OW through steam, and wallah! it worked. So thank you!

I’m glad you got it working, have fun!
I’m curious, what folder from where?

I had a folder from 2021 under “This PC” > “Documents”. I deleted that and then re-installed on Steam, and it launched.

Probably with some old config file, nice catch!
Thanks for the info!
