Overwatch needs an actual region selector and/or allow VPNs

I don’t know if VPN’s are allowed because “xyz third party software” whatever… but I shouldn’t be forced to play in the miserable region that is Oceania.

Australia has such a pathetic gaming scene and everyone just has a meltdown if you ask them to switch or they die after the first teamfight. I don’t want to be stuck playing with people who peak silver-gold in my plat+ games because their mental state is so weak they’ll call you a slur and go AFK after the first minute of the match.

There is a REASON people like Frogger are playing in different regions, why haven’t they considered fixing the client region select feature???

You can VPN.

Are there any VPNs that people recommend? I know the free ones are kind of shady and weird but I’ll take any advice!!

I just need something to get me out of this lame region

I don’t know of any that are good for gaming unfortunately. I’ve used NordVPN and Private Internet Access (PIA). Mixed results for gaming, but they’re okay mostly. They aren’t free though, naturally.

EDIT:
I see ExpressVPN mentioned a lot, but I’ve never used it.

All good thank you for the suggestions though!! I have seen people mentioning Nord, Express and some one called “Proton”(? or something like that).

I’ve never really explored VPN usage but I can’t see myself enjoying overwatch or climbing past my potential trapped permanently in a bad culture region. Thanks again for the pointers : )

Fair warning, NA isn’t going to be any better, but at least your queue times might.

From the few times I’ve dipped my toes in NA regions… At least the toxicity is fewer between and most times can be rationalised or tame… in Oceania they can’t be in the wrong and they’ll say just about anything.

And you’ll also find everyone else is either bystander, friends with, or just as aggressively toxic/racist/etc.

So I got faith it’ll be more of a joy lol

Well, godspeed, good sir. I wish you the best of luck.

I mostly play in asian servers… I think something is wrong with my console though

the game doesnt know if its routed through vpn or not as its not hooking directly to the game process at all. Vpns are fine.

For vpn i would suggest Protonvpn or Private internet access. Both can do split-tunneling (per app vpn) properly.
i.e. you can configure to only have overwatch and any other specific app to use the vpn tunnel, and others skip it.

Proton also would give you proton mail+drive and other things in nearly the same monthly price that many other vpn providers normally cost, in their Proton unlimited package.

Proton also does have a free vpn option but in that I think you can choose a limited number of regions, or it was completely chosen by the program.
