Overwatch needed to copy MR selection screen

About a decade ago. How do we not have this? The ability to see what our teammates are considering picking before they lock in? Im telling you it helps out more than you know

That shadow ghost effect is a great feature ngl.

It’s not even necessary in Overwatch with role queue quite frankly. What are they going to do, steal my Reinhardt?

It will be when Dec 17th comes with the iconic 6v6 trials! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Wouldnt it be funny if they added that feature just for the trials?

That specific feature is probably the only good thing about the MR selection screen.

Otherwise, it’s some of the worst UI I’ve ever seen in a hero shooter. The wheel UI for hero-selection in particular is absolute crap and it’s only going to get worse as they add more heroes.

I once used it to let someone who wanted Black Panther… To play something else because I snatched it up. And then I got him on my team the next game and he stole Panther from me. Little did he realize I was going to torment the lobby with my Wolverine. Bet he regrets that decision!

Some of us play roles with 2 heroes. Do you know how long I have to stare at my co support slot sometimes to make sure to pick something so we don’t end up on Zen Lucio or watch my dps to make sure there is a hitscan so we’re not playing Junk and Sym? I need this in OW

How in the world would that help you? lol

You see that they are looking at other characters…and…that helps you … somehow?

How about no?. They are other things they could copy from MR but not the selection screen. UI feels like it is done for touch screen devices.

I usually just switch after I pick if they force us into that… Just kidding. I am only joking. I definitely do not switch. Reaper and Junkrat into Pharah is a thrilling experience that builds character and the best healer is the respawn room. Our tank will surely appreciate speed and discord more than nasty heal bots… Right?!

:muscle::joy:

Fairly certain that we actually do have this?

If you click on a hero it soft selects them and shows it to the entire team. But people are either AFK and don’t select until the game starts or people just instalock. So there is just no time to see what people are wanting to pick.

Nope, nuh-uh and no.
Please no.
Nope.

I feel like people don’t realize OP is talking about how you can declare your intent to play a hero so the team can see it and pick around it or adjust. This also comes into play when picking bans in comp (diamond and up).

he’s not talking about the layout of the hero icons in that half arc.

Bruh, I hate that here selection wheel. Worst idea ever…

Actually I like the hero selection UI. You can just narrow it down to what role you want to play. I mean I like Overwatches as well, it is not a huge deal.

edit: Gwen beats DIVA anyday.

Pick and unlock. Mates will see ghost of hero picked iirc.

Or even better. Press Enter, type in chat to ask what your mates are thinking. Or use vocal comms.

The main problem in OW2 is people locking mindlessly and not changing for all game long.

It technically already exists. When you make a selection, it shows the character portrait for you as not being locked in yet, but when you select it it locks in.

The only part missing would be giving it to allies on their screen.

I especially like the feature to request a hero or team up selection. I have heroes I prefer to play but also like to flex to whatever the team needs. It’s nice to have others let me know what they would like.

The devs are too busying crying on twitter about return to work policies than working to put things like this in the game.

That’s why it took them 5 years to make 2 PVE levels.

I reminds me of a fighting game series that I enjoyed playing. The 3rd installment had all of the characters on a grid. Both players could move their cursors around and when you hovered over a character, a 2D render of them would show on that player’s side of the screen.

The 4th installment moved to a vertically scrolling wheel. Both players had a split screen with their own wheel. When you hovered over a character, the game would load the 3D in-game model on that player’s side. Problem is that loading that model in slowed things down a bunch. Plus it made impulse choosing a character harder because you couldn’t scan the whole board.

It was a pretty bad decision.
