I didnt get these kind of issues before the event but now I do have it. I first thought it was my mouse, but it was the game. When I check the FPS counter I either have a . or a … next to the number, not sure if thats what it is or what…?

Some help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Howdy!

We first need to figure out if this is a performance based or connection base latency issue. The best way to do that is to capture this problem with the following requests below:

  1. Open Overwatch goto: Options → Video → Turn on: DISPLAY PERFORMANCE STATS. Click: ADVANCED PERFORMANCE STATS+ turn them all on.

Once in game when this issue occurs press (Shift+Ctrl+N) to show your Network Graph. Then take a Screenshot. You can upload the screenshot to a site like Imgur.com → Link back here in code blocks </> or replace the periods with spaces.

  1. Capture this issue at the start of a match using a WinMTR. Keep the test running for the whole match where this issue occurs or at least 10 mininutes. Use the “Copy text to clipboard” option and paste the results back here.

Thank you.

Sim spike -> At some point your system is taking a lot longer to process a single frame. The most common reasons for this is due to a load delay(HDD) or overheating/throttling of some kind.

You may try limiting your FPS to the frame rate of your monitor by going to Options -> Video -> Limit FPS -> Display-based. Retest to see if that helps.

Thanks!

I tried that. It didn’t work, still the same results.

Had the same problem 3 times ://
it happened to me last week, and the other 2 happened 3 months ago and 2 more or less.
The first and second time it just went away by time (around 2 weeks) but last time it happened I was so mad that i restored my pc and now it works, i didn’t want to do that but i was so mad that i did. I don’t want you to do it if you don’t want to, of curse there is a way to stop this but idk what

I had the problem once and it was a cable failure with my mouse.
The mouse has repeatedly plugged itself in and out for few milliseconds.
This could lead to the situation described.

Kind of ironic since I have it on an SSD not a HDD.

A SIM spike can be caused by any increase in the time it takes the device to process game ticks. The drive which the game is installed to is only a single factor in the equation.

My best advice would be to disable background applications (some may need to be uninstalled temporarily as a test if this process does not disable them).

Beyond that, I might recommend contacting our support department directly since SIM is a rather complex issue.

I’m pretty sure SIM spikes are caused by the Archives update. I know a few people who have them after the update. But most don’t. I wish Blizzard would understand it’s a game issue instead of immediately blaming the hardware. Like come on, you think a 1080, a ryzen 5 2600 and 16GB of RAM isn’t enough to run this game?

I’m having them too. And I also have a Ryzen 5 2600. And the other person I know also has a Ryzen. I believe the problem is the game having issues with Ryzen CPUs.
