Overwatch is the only community

Where players have been conditioned to think “gg” is toxic.
I give up with you guys, man. You deserve a bad game.

“Can’t take it anymore, Riot. I only said gg in chat 5 times and now I’m banned for a month.”

Def not in the mmo communitys

My main game is Black Desert online and that is mostly open world pvp… After a dual or group fight everyone says GG…

In elder scrolls online, after a dungeon, if we had to wipe 20 times or did a no death speed run people always say Gg ty…

I played FF14 for a while a few years back and ever there players said GG after a group activity…

Def not all community’s

its all communities its just different. in ffxiv if you tell a new white mage to use cure 2 over cure 1, theyll start crying and leave.

Yea pretty much

mmos aren’t particularly competitive. pvp has always been secondary to pve.

i hope you find a community that’s more aligned with your virtual social standards

What, being able to say the universal symbol for “thanks, it was a good match!”?

Nah this has been the case from age of empires time.

People will spam gg when they think they are winning

I want people who get upset at seeing winners type “gg” to be similarly upset at people typing “gg” when a match isn’t going their way. It’s more toxic to tell the entire lobby “yea I give up because someone on my team sucks” than to type “gg” after a match

somehow I think there is overlap in being offended at “gg” and also typing “gg” when losing

Look, if you’re the winning team in a roll, it wasn’t a good game, so you saying it is disrespectful, unless prompted by the losing team.

The losing team should initiate “gg” out of respect to the winning team.

well it’s not accepted here :woman_shrugging: people associate it w/ disingenuity, sarcasm and belittling
i started typing gg in team chat after threads started to pop up about it being toxic
each gaming community has its own little unwritten (and sometimes written) rules and subculture
you can be perceived as rude even if you don’t mean to be, even if your comment(s) aren’t considered to be rude in a different community

And that says more about the players than it does about the actual context of the gesture.

After all, we can’t even use voicelines or pings often without a cooldown.

well this topic is about the players and their interactions correct?

Go over to CSGO and you’ll burst into tears.

i can’t aim so…

That is not true, in starcraft 2, if you are winning and say gg, it is considered bad manners, you are telling the other person to leave. It is the same as dropping manner mules or dancing your units.

Winning and saying it before the game is over is toxic, I agree. Should the winner not say it after it’s ended?

Oh, so it’s a Blizzard problem?

Potato, potato.

Winners are allowed to have fun too, by the way.
