Super Smash Bros started with the N64 version. They played around and it was a good game at the time not perfect.
-> Overwatch release
Then they brought the game to gamecube. Super smash bros Meele was a masterpiece. Hard for beginners to get into. Lots of techniques to learn. Fast paced aggressive gameplay where little mistakes get punished fast.
->Overwatch early dive era
Nintendo thought meele was too hard for the casual community to fall in love with and they developed Brawl on the Nintendo Wii. A console that was addressed for the casual gaming market in general. Brawl Meta was heavily screwed where only a handful of characters were viable and the rest was complete garbage. Game was cheezy, mistakes were not punished as hard, it was slow, hell you could even stumble for no reason but running around.
-> Overwatch GOATS era
Then they released Smash4. Still addressed to the casuals but not as much as brawl. They learned a lot from their mistakes. Tierlist is still a bit screwed (not as much as brawl). Gameplay got faster but nowhere near to meele.
-> Overwatch era after forced 2-2-2
At the end there is smash Ultimate. Smash Ultimate feels like a small improvement to smash 4 in a lot of ways. At this point there are so many characters in this game that balancing is hard but they have tons of characters viable. Balance changes are small since they don’t want to screw up the characters to much. The game is the fastest since meele. They screwed up some technical details to really make it feel fast but over all not to bad. It still is nowhere near what meele used to be because there is still a big casual market to please
-> Overwatch currently, where there are small adjustments in the right direction to please some competitive players but not to many to scare away the casuals.
