Apparently rumour from some analysts states that Overwatch will be going free to play and i really dont like this idea. Not sure about you guys but it would ruin the game. I dont know about you guys but i am worried and looking at the state of Blizzard. We might enjoy the last few months of remaining freedom and peace

If they don’t provide credible evidence, then don’t believe them. Overwatch is only into its third year and I highly doubt the people who paid for the game would be too happy about the game becoming free when they basically wasted their money.

Maybe only quickplay. With new heroes plus new skins and competitive locked behind a season pass.

That didn’t stop other games from doing it.
That being said, I’m hoping not. More hackers would suck, and infinite free smurfs would basically destroy matchmaking for everyone.

If it does happen. Than that will just confirm the game was dying. I would expect support to die like HOTS after 1 or 2 more years.

It’s basically 20 bucks on PC and already free-ish on consoles, I don’t see how going totally free is going to change all that much.

Everything would turn into a microtransaction. End of Lootboxes and credits. We would have an activision rip off overwatch where you can only access event with the 50 dollar season pass…

Analysts don’t need evidence. They’re all about speculation based on the past. What is worrying that the analyst who made this speculation was right about things in the past, and some thing he wasn’t 100% right, he was right in some way (such as speculating that a WoW mobile game would come out, but it was actually Diablo). Also I wouldn’t hold too tight to believing that a company would care too much about how happy the current customers are when they can bring in more. In 3 years they’ve shown that they are unable to please the current players so from their stand point they might as well give up and go for money grab.

Free accounts tend to lead to an influx of people behaving poorly both from new players that have no investment in their accounts to older players that are making new accounts to mess with people.
It can also lead to shifts in how a game deals with it’s users.

if this is the case, the game will be filled with even more sniper wannabe syndrome rat kids that refuse to flex and the like, further adding to the toxicity the game has.
and everything to please the overwatch league and investors when the game has tons of issues, heros in need of a fix take literally months to get whats needed (see reaper), stagnant metas, no lore.
its time to stop buying AAA games.

Ftr, TF2, which was and is a vastly more accessible game to a casual player, was only in its 4th year when it went free-to-play.

I mean, if we’re going to compare it to Fortnite, I think it would be an improvement. Fortnite seems to be getting updates and balance changes every other week with tons of new stuff.
A game being f2p doesn’t mean it’s going to be ruined.
