Overwatch Hit Boxes

Thanks for the share, interesting data.

What I find disturbing is how tanks’ hp pool is not proportionately bigger compared to their hitboxes. 4-5 times the size for only 2 or 3 times the healthpool doesn’t seem cool.

Ive always said this game has biggest hit boxes of any game out. Thats why good aim isnt as important here. Everyone can hit a ow target and feel like a pro doing it.

Makes you really think about all those raw aim skill ‘arguments’ when we have hitboxes like these.
:joy:

Tanks all also have abilities to bolster their defenses that few supports or DPS have.

The DPS that do have them are usually flankers who need such abilities because they’re often cut off from their teammates.

But the hitbox sizes are a necessity to counterbalance the magnitude of mobility in this game that isn’t present in most other shooters.

Game has no movement acceleration so I honestly don’t see the problem with the hitboxes, some of the head ones could be toned down sure but it’s not really a big deal.

IMO, what toning down the hitboxes to be more accurate would accomplish:

Players feel less cheesed when dying.
The game actually becomes competitive.

You can tone down less aim reliant skills, heroes, weapons, if need be as you go along.

People flickshotting would become much less effective compared to how it currently stands, I think.

Eh.

Meanwhile Zenyatta and Ashe have gigantic head hitbox sizes.

Seriously why does Ashe’s hitbox include her hat??

I said the hitbox sizes are a necessity to counterbalance the mobility in the game. That doesn’t only mean that the hitboxes are designed to assist those shooting at mobile characters but also the mobile characters themselves, who are trying to shoot while moving in rapid complex patterns that don’t exist in other games.

They’re not. That’s simply how you’re choosing to interpret the information. I could just as fairly ask, “why is Ana’s hitbox so tiny?”

Remember all this is relative to Ana only. In fact the information here actually offers zero insight on how any of these hitboxes even compare to those of any other game.

But to you answer your question, it makes sense for long-range damage dealers to have larger hit or critboxes for fair counterplay against them.

This.

I have read this graphic is misleading as it only accounts for frontal hitxboxes. Not from a side or angular view. As well as only showing their resting frame.

That said it does show something that has me ask. Why is Hanzo headbox so small? Widow, Ashe even McCree all have extra large headboxes to account for they are high accuracy hitscan so you can “Counter-Snipe”.

Hanzo however, also a sniper has a small headbox. Why is this? He plays at the same range as McCree/Ashe. Does way more damage and “requires” good aiming like them. Seems like an unfair advantage.

A “hitbox visualization tool” sounds like something that would get flagged for the banhammer…

Compare Hammond’s to Rein’s and D.Va’s. Wayyyyy tighter to the actual model. Both deserve smaller hitboxes.
