- The hero Iām thinking about is Mercy.
- My word is āhappyā.

Currently, a lot of Mercy mains arenāt happy with her current state. Since 2016, weāve seen many changes to her due to the āunfun to play againstā argument, and the āhide and resā dramatizations pushed maliciously from some of the top 1% of players, to change how she was originally designed to be played for their benefit, rather than the 99%.
Myself and many Mercy mains from a wide variety of ranks, representations, and backgrounds, were happy with her in her original form, albeit, requesting that she just needed to be tweaked so her ressurect had a bit more counterplay, and that she was given an e-ability.
Despite these minor requests, as we know, Mercy was suddenly changed against the wants of her players. Not to make them happy, but rather, to make happy those that play against the hero. This has backfired however, when the rework resulted as being one of the most catastrophic changes weāve ever witnessed in the history of the game, and to some, with how itās spawned the infamous Mercy meta, making her OP for 5+ months straight, and needed to be nerfed into oblivion with 12+ nerfs just to balance, the rework has arguably been seen as one of the biggest failures in the game as well. In short, many of us, the players, were not happy. Today, despite all of the patch-notes, years later, many of us stillā¦ Arenāt happy.
Our needs were simple. We want Mercy to be made engaging, rewarding, and impactful again, and have impact. We want her to be a hero that is able to make amazing plays and have her own big game-changing moment like everyone else. But we are restrained from that. We are told that ā#MercyIsFineā despite the outcries, despite the hundreds of thousands of complaints in literally hundreds of thousands of posts in a multitude of threads and megathreads. We are ignored, and our concerns are put on the back burner. And the repercussions of a lack of an ultimate that can stop ultimate spam, power creep, and āMost Qs winā strats, is starting to take itās toll on both the game, and its community.
People have been leaving in droves, the game has stagnated, and despite efforts to retain those that are still playing the game with some new content, patches, and a new hero, the game struggles currently to keep up with the other shooters that offer so much more to their consumers. Famous Overwatch Youtubers are leaving or have left to play other things. The damage has been done, and the game is effectively risking a downward path to irrelevance. But still, I believe there is hope.
I am happy, despite all of this, because I believe there is still a chance for my favorite hero to be made into one that everyone can enjoy. I believe that the game has developed enough to allow for a revert/rework of Mass Rez + The Tweaks. Giving it line of sight, a 1.25s cast time, and a 30% damage reduction instead of invincibility. I believe that Valk, which to me, feels incredibly lackluster, and more like a glorified spectator cam than an impactful ultimate, benefits more as an e-ability on a cooldown, rather than ressurect - which was her original ultimate to begin with. I believe that switching the two is not only beneficial, but crucial if the goal with her is to widen the amount of players who are happy with her state in the game.
I believe thereās a way to return her back to her former glory, and adjust her to not be too strong, but also, be more fun to play by a lot more players. That type of change that meets a middle-ground for both the lovers of Valk and the lovers of Mass Rez and unifying them, in essence, is what I believe will make not only the Mercy players happy, but everyone else who are currently loathing the ultimate spam and power creep that is running rampant in the game right now. And Iām happy that one day, with the changes speculated to be made to Mercy in a future update, we have the chance to see what they have in store for her. Be it a revert, a rework, or a minor buff, it makes me happy that the devs no longer see Mercy as #Fine, and are willing to look into improving her in the future. Hereās hoping!
~Sincerely Yours xoxo,
a Lover of True, Fair, and Fun Balance.
