"Overwatch has crashed in the graphics driver" for 5 months

Hello,

Could someone please try to help me identify where the problem is, I’ve tried multiple fixes and am getting hopeless.

Since April this year my Overwatch has been crashing after 1-3 matches. The crash code most often displays as “Crashed the graphics driver”; BLZOWCLI00000004

I have made sure to keep my Nvidia drivers updated during the past 5 months. I’ve also kept Windows updated.

PC specs:
Windows 11
i5-13600K
Asus PRIME Z790-P
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
32 GB RAM

I built my PC 8/23, and upgraded to new graphics card 10/23. I used DDU to get the new drivers while installing the card. After that the game worked fine for some time, but the issues began around April. There was no changes in my PC or setup at that time.

Here’s some fixes I have already tried:

  1. Updating graphics drivers
  2. Re-installing the game
  3. Disabling all background apps
  4. Installing the game on steam; this made the crash error display a new text “Your rendering device has been lost”
  5. Repairing game files
  6. Updating my bios (9/24)
  7. Deleting Overwatch cache folders
  8. Deleting windows display cache
  9. I’ve checked my RAM with mdsched.exe, no issues were detected
  10. Verifying windows files with SFC.exe
  11. Resetting NVIDIA 3D settings
  12. Resetting default settings in bios
(My memory isn’t running full speed at the moment because I disabled the XMP
profiles trying to solve the issue, but it was at 5600MHz before)
  13. Lowering the graphics, playing full screen and trying multiple different settings
  14. Monitoring my temperatures, they do not get past 70°C, on medium and low graphics

+multiple other small fixes

I don’t have any issues with my PC on any other games (Valorant, Wow, Deadlock, Bg3, Helldivers etc.)

I’ll attach here DxDiag, crash reports and will post MsInfo32 in the comments

Please what is the issue here? I don’t understand what more can I do.

The start of your DxDiag has an error:

Sound Tab 3: The file cmudaxp.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo’d driver from the hardware manufacturer.

It’s referring to this:

Description: Wave (ASUS Xonar DGX Audio Device)
Default Sound Capture: No
Default Voice Capture: No
Driver Name: cmudaxp.sys

I noticed that you do not have any playback devices enabled, only input. This might be causing an issue for the nVidia sound settings.

The rest of the report has an error for:

  • ArmourySocketServer.exe (bloatware from ASUS)
  • Monitor.exe (the Windows process)
  • and TL.exe (not sure what this is; some sites say it’s malware).

Errors from the MSInfo include many BlueScreen errors and crashes from Aac3572MbHal_x86.exe (related to ASUS Armory bloatware).

I recommend checking the Windows Event Viewer for the BlueScreens and then looking up the codes provided on each event.

Beyond that, address the stuff I mentioned above by reinstalling or removing each app. If that doesn’t work, ask someone in the Windows forum to read your memory dump files for crash reasons.

Hi thanks for your reply.
I assume the sound device error is refering to my currently unused soundcard. I don’t currently have anything plugged in and it’s not being used as my audios device. I am using my motherboards own audio card. It is set as playback device in the system.
Could unused audio card possibly result in those crashes with overwatch?

TL.exe is most likely Throne and liberty, so unrelated to ow

Blue screens were most often resulted by me trying to undervolt the CPU in order to fix the issue with OW2.
I’ll see if uninstalling the Asus programs helps I guess

If it’s set to play on that device and it’s disabled, then yes. If not, then probably not.
