Overwatch FPS will not go over 60

I have checked display settings, windows display hertz, limit fps, the RAM used, the graphics and have tried changing just about everything. When I join overwatch the FPS starts at the limit fps 355 and then just falls to 60 and stays no matter what I do.

I have a quick second here to try and provide some help. Just because I’ve had some experience with FPS dropping over time . I don’t know the situation. But I can offer some advice.

1 ) The FPS of any game is dependent upon just how fast the monitor can run. Each monitor has their “maximum refresh rate”. Which most monitors are 60 HZ. Which means their maximum is “60 fps”.

  • Now whether or not this can maintain this. Depends FIRST on the Processor and then the GPU.

  • High performance gaming monitors offer, 144hz, 200, 244hz, or higher.

If it is falling. It is because your processor cannot handle it. Wyomingmist, somewhere has an article on it, (I forgot to bookmark it). On all of the customization you will need to do for your drivers for this game. It is a really good article!

This game has TONS of customization to it for graphics, so a person can fine-tune it. Since every computer is different.

  • You CANNOT max out the settings on this game and expect it to play smooth or maintain frame rate.

Usually what gets a person into trouble is the Aspect ratio setting for “Adjust desktop size and position”. (nvidia users). Which GPU scaling is very important to have set.

Render scale: 100% (Overatch settings).

Limit FPS: Display based.

and then in the driver. I limit the computer to the maximum Frame rate that the monitor can handle. if it is set higher than what the monitor is listed for. it will have issues.

If the monitor has a high refresh rate, and the computer is still having issues. It is more than likely the CPU and the ram is NOT enough to handle it. I know for me. Once I jumped over to having my rig being 16GB of RAM, the game ran much better than 8GB of RAM, and then when the computer was fully switched to SOLID STATE. it was even better yet!

I hope that sends you down the right path to start on your journey into tweaking your computer to run this game!

Menus are locked at 60 fps. Sounds like you have vsync turned on somewhere, too.

Uhm, no, this isn’t true at all. The FPS and monitor refresh are completely independant of one another. The monitor wont be able to display those extra frames, but they exist and drastically improve input responsiveness.

Is your monitor using Gsync or some other limiter, or does it even have the ability to go above 60Hz?
Mine cannot do that so I’m locked to 60
