I made tier lists for the custom mode which functions like Dead by Daylight. Below are two tier lists, one for hunters and one for survivors. For people who care, I’ll write my placement reasoning. This is using my average edition, as there are many iterations with many different characters.
Hunters:
S- Junkrat, Mei
Junkrat is the best in the game. He can place two invisible traps that kill survivors on impact. This makes him incredibly good for camping objectives or preventing rescues, without even being present.
Mei can teleport to an objective on command, taking grouped survivors by surprise. Works in matches opposite of Ashe. She also possesses an Ice Wall which can trap survivors or kiters who are pesky and indoors, like McCree.
A- Mercy, Zenyatta
Mercy can fly, being the only hunter with reliable verticality. However, she is predictable, slow, and not super offensive as a result. Nonetheless, she is very good.
Zenyatta can make a field around him that burns all enemies in a radius. Good for enemies who are low and just barely out of melee range. However, the burn time is slow and unreliable.
B- Ashe, Moira
Ashe can activate a parasite which if not passed to teammates, kills the host. While this sounds deadly, it only works against separated teams and is ineffective if they group up.
Moira puts down a translocator and can teleport back to it at any time. Good for stalking objectives, but hunters can’t see objective colors, making it niche.
C- Reaper
Reaper can turn invisible. While this sounds good, to turn invisible you must hold the button for quite a while, and then to turn visible takes a few seconds of holidng. In that time, most survivors move away and catch onto the nearby Reaper.
D- Tracer
Tracer has one blink. While the distance crossing sounds good, she is unable to move at the end of the blink, making it not very useful, especially for the cooldown length.
Survivors:
S- Ana, Widowmaker, Mercy, Symmetra
Although Ana has no mobility, she can freeze the hunter in a radius around her, which can be used to kite or save nearby teammates. She also has a dart which if landed on the hunter sends them back to their spawn. Her abilities work really well in conjunction.
Widowmaker can see from the hunters perspective without a cooldown. Great to disclose information to teammates. She also has Grapple which is amazing mobility, and Venom Mine which slows the hunter when they step on it, giving her slight kiting potential.
Mercy is one of two functioning healers. Her steady single-target heal is great to increase teammate kites and promote stalling. Her Resurrect is quicker than others, and spawns the teammate at full health, unlike the other resurrection counterparts. Her Guardian Angel is very situational in a kite, but can be invaluable to a good Mercy.
Symmetra is extremely versatile. Her turrets alert her if the hunter is near while slowing them. Her teleporter is amazing for escape attempts and exiting to high ground. She can kite well and rescue well and inform well. A great all-around character.
A- McCree, Baptiste, Genji
McCree is a slightly worse Ana. Unlike Ana with a full incapacitate kit, McCree has a good close range stun and slight mobility with roll. He is great indoors, unlike Ana, because his kit is very deliberate and close-quarters. Usually found with a Mercy healing him.
Baptiste can be a lifesaver with his invisibility field, however its problem is its limited range and lack of protection. If the hunter knows you’re in it, they can still hit you. Good for pulling off safe rescues and capturing objectives.
Lucio is a slightly worse Mercy. While his heal is AOE, he heals slower. He has Wall Ride to escape encounters, which is very useful when the hunter lacks vertical mobility. He can resurrect teammates at an increased speed, however they don’t spawn with full health, like with Mercy.
B- Torbjorn, Winston, Sombra, Genji
Torbjorn is the only character who can speed generator progress. His main ability is his burst of generator progress, which can be helpful when hunters are camping objectives; instead of working gradually, just wait until the cooldown finishes each time over and over. He also has a turret which alerts him if the hunter is within its view. He’s okay and should always stick by objectives, however his lack of mobility means his turret needs great alert placement for him to escape.
Winston is another close-quarters and very risky character. He can shoot his primary fire, which greatly slows the hunter. However, his weapon has low range, so it is hard to not get hit by the hunter while using it. He also has a leap, just in case the hunter gets too close.
Genji is a pure kiter. He has wall climb and double jump. But his main attraction is his Deflect, which can shield him from a hunter hit. However, Deflect is very difficult to use and better as a contingency, not as a planned part of strategy.
Sombra is extremely versatile. She turns invisible when crouching, though she can’t move while invisible. Great for taking the hunter off your trail. She also has a translocator, which can be a lifesaver when doing risky things. However, her abilities encourage out of action play and can make her end up avoiding objectives.
C-Hanzo, DVa
Hanzo can shoot arrows. When he hits the hunter, they are hacked. While hunter abilities are great, they’re not vital to confirm kills. He also has lunge, to make small distance or close small gaps, and sonic arrow to see the hunter through a wall. He is extremely niche and not super useful against many hunters.
D.Va is usually played aggressively, because she can self -rez. However, she can only do it once and has no other abilties. She can pull off risky plays because of her self-rez, but Sombra and Baptiste are better alternatives for risktakers.
D- Brigitte
Brigitte should be good, but her abilities don’t work properly. If they did, she would be the third in-game healer, with Repair Pack as a kiter-supportive burst heal (the only burst heal ingame) and Shield Bash as a quick stun.
