Overwatch could with some fairly simple alterations beat Marvel Rivals. The Overwatch engine is far, far superior. It is so well polished and smooth to move in, the guns feel satisfying and the network code is among the best in the market.
What is needed is to make the game actually fun again. 6v6 will lay the foundation. After that, Support need lower sustain. AoE heals have to be toned down. Support needs to be punishable, meaning the get-out-of-jail-free cards needs to be either removed or come with some drawbacks (Kiriko Im looking at you).
How the tanks will look in a new 6v6 format is anyone’s guess. It is clear they can not look like they do now. The mitigation abilities and the damage is simply too crazy.
If I were a Overwatch dev, I would aim at reaching the gameplay approximately around the end of Overwatch1. If you can make it fun like that, it would be a solid starting point to build out again.
Marvel Rivals has its own problems, like it is too unoptimized and it has big balancing problems, especially with extreme levels of sustain. For many people TPS is also working against it.
Good luck. I hope Overwatch comes back, because in my opinion it is potentially (that is a key word) the better game. What I mean is, that somewhere in there, hidden in the heap of poor updates, is a fantastic game that can claim the throne of hero shooters again.

6v6 is trash though. 5v5 is far better

I am not sure it will be easy; however, I am fairly confident they can pull it off if they put their minds to it. And ignore your opinion on Reinhardt.

You looked at Kiri with murderous eyes within your opening statements. Did not read beyond that bc you already lost me there.

I love Reinhardt
I never played other tanks than Reinhardt and DVA, maybe the odd Winston, back in OW1. Unfortunately as a DPS main, 2-2-2 ended that. Sadly, because I love especially DVA, which was like my 3rd most played hero. That says alot considering Im a DPS main.
Anyway, certainly it will take some effort, but everything is there. They have access to all the earlier versions and could import the game at any state it was in. Or at least I assume they could, seeing that they could bring back classic.
If they started by simply bringing back the state the game was in at the end of OW1, and then worked from there. Brought in the new heroes one by one, balanced them and made sure that the overall fun-level stayed intact, then I believe it should be possible.
Of course I understand that they have obligations, like no hero can be deleted (although I would if it were my game). But seeing how many reworks they have done in the past, that should also not be necessary.
When I said “fairly easy” I referred more to the fact that it is all there, including earlier fun states of the game that could serve as a baseline. Work-wise Im sure it will take quite some effort.

If I see anyone insult Reinhardt, I will find their mum and tell on them.
There. That should make you stop and think before making a poor decision. Yeah.

Nah. 6v6 is an excuse for bad tank players to get carried lol
Where nothing died and sustain was broken? No thanks

Can confirm. Past two games I’ve been carrying Ball players as Rein. It’s just unreal

And some of that is qp matchmaking, I would bet if they enforced comp matchmaking queue times would be crazy though lol.

What they should do is…ban all Ball players so the game will be better…
(no bias btw cough)

True. When is blizzard gonna stop making me carry my support partner. Disolve the 2nd support slot and give me their hps and utility. Ill do it all myself. And also give junkrat an alternative hitscan fire so they stop getting carried by their hitscan partners against fliers. 3v3 is the future. Disagree and it means youre the diff others carry.

Nah, this implies tank is not the most demanding role in the game. A lot of tank players I’ve seen in 6v6 genuinely do not have a clue what is happening. Some of that might just be nobody queues the role so the matchmaker does the best it can with what it has though

So was that a yes on 100 hps mercy with several charges of GA and speed boost added ontop of damage boost?

No. Thought it would be fun and it might make me play mercy.
Ah yes, all we need for overwatch to beat Marvel Rivals is to bring back 10 minute dps queues. I’m sure everyone will come back for that. More than enough to surpass in-game tournaments, factions, instant queues even on top 50, 4 heroes launching for free in a single season and many legendary level skins in a single battle-pass.
Overwatch is superior but it is also outdated and lost confidence. Everyone is tired of the devs releasing mid-season patches as if it was content and doing 3 years of experiments just to revert the game back to a situation where it was also unbearable. Rivals has most characters in a playable state (besides 1 that is getting a buff) while Overwatch kept symmetra and torbjorn as troll picks for nearly 6 years.
If OW manages to bring back players it will be because Rivals couldn’t address it’s two main issues (lack of maps and bad optimization), because patch notes and arcade experiments aren’t going to do it.

Not just that, but Netease has a well known history of very shady practices

Actually not.
Main problem with UE5 is the resources it takes but with the right computer, its the most beautiful engine.
OW is built to run on as many computers as possible. Team Fortress 2 did well better things like animated mouths when characters speak with more characters on bigger maps.
OW Engine was impressive in 2016 for some really good material for the specs it asked for. But now OW2 jsut works. There’s nothing special about it. But working is all what its been asked so yay.
Omg no.
I know a lot of people would go the game was dying because it was abandoned by the devs but people played TF2 years after the last official update, Diablo 2 ran for 10 years without any problem. People enjoy woW classic. So its time to understand that OW2019 died, it was because the game was in a bad state.
6v6 event has insane waiting queues, at least on my end, even as Support.
About 6v6 and tanks ; the test has shown Tanks (or at least some) still needs a knockback resistance. My last 6v6 game, my Queen was bullied by Lucio right clicking every axe move and I couldn’t do anything but being a tennis ball…
Define AoE heals plz cause best heals are single target, beside Moira.
You’d nerf Suzu ? Ana Grenade ain’t such a big problem after all ?
Not sure I’m understanding that “out of jail” thing since there are skills preventing from using those abilities… You wanna wreak havoc without any utility, just left click to kill ?
I mean, to me its part of the game to read the teams composition to pick the most efficient hero. But fortunately for you, CowBoy has everything you need.

But if it’s optimized like a** then what does that matter? Pretty much everyone, competitive players ESPECIALLY will say performance >>> visuals.
Brig gives her team 75hps just for existing so like I mean
The end of OW1 is why we moved to 5v5. It wasn’t practical to have two tanks on every team given that it has always been and will always be the least popular role no matter how it’s balanced. It’s the duties and nature of the role that don’t appeal to as many players as DPS/support.
There were also too many issues with tank combos that couldn’t be as realistically outplayed outside of open queue, so mirrors ended up being the best option more often than not.
I’m only talking about tanks because I assume you want 6v6 back to have two tanks, but 6v6 with 2/2/2 role lock isn’t an option. Without that, 5v5 is the way that makes the most sense. If they try something like min 1/max 3, people will either break it with 3 tanks at high ranks or they’ll hate playing solo tank into 3 DPS at low/mid ranks.
We’d need full open queue for 6v6 to work, but then people are going to have to accept comps like GOATS as an inevitability. I thought that time right before RQ was fun, but the community outrage disagreed with me, which is why we got RQ.
