I was wondering if there was anyway in the future where Blizzard can make it so that players can merge two different Xbox Overwatch accounts into one (I’m aware that this isn’t a possibility right now), ever since a long time ago I had been playing Overwatch on a different Xbox account from the one I use as my main now and it’s really annoying that I have to switch to my other Xbox account (which is used mostly by my younger brother who doesn’t play Overwatch) in order to play Overwatch with all of my progress. I had also already connected this account (my Overwatch account with all of my progress) to my battle net account and now since Overwatch 2 is coming out soon I’m not sure if I should do the account merging to my battle net account or not. And also could I login into my Overwatch account with all of my progress onto my main Xbox account when I get the login prompt on my main Xbox account? I have seen this as a complaint/issue for the longest time for Overwatch when I was trying to research an answer for my concerns/questions, additionally this may be more of a possibility since Microsoft has purchased Blizzard a bit back, so if anyone knows what to do or can help me decide what I should do please let me know thank you [If you need a clarification about anything feel free to ask].
I don’t think this will ever happen
No game company does this and for good reason, different accounts are usually for different people, it could be easy to go against Code of conduct and just “sell” your account with plenty of cosmetics that you’d merge with
Of course you’re not doing this, but it’s the fact that it’s possible, and that people usually use their account and noone else’s, unless they have a smurf which would be a secondary account, still different from their main one
Overall i don’t know how to summarize this but i don’t think it will be possible, what i’d do is very dependent on your situation
- If your younger brother will play overwatch 2, merge your account instead
- If your younger brother will NOT play ow2, merge whichever account you like the most, either the first one due to cosmetics or the current one due to rank or whatever, really up to you, that’s about it
The account that has ALL of my progress is the one that is on my brother’s Xbox account. And the Overwatch account on my Xbox account has zero progress. So, now I’m deciding to just start over on to my Xbox account, since cosmetics are nice ofc, but shouldn’t effect my ow2 experience. And my follow up question is that if I were to disconnect my brother’s xbox Overwatch account from my battle net would it keep all of the progress on that account? (So if his account with all of my progress still have the progress I made be there when he connects it to his own battle net account?) And would I just then connect my Xbox account to my battle net and go through the merge process for my overwatch account for ow2?
Ok this might be confusing to explain but in a nutshell, yes, to what you say yes, you can keep the progress
Just make a new account for your brother, unlink the battle net account and relink the xbox account on the new battle net account, the progress is saved on the xbox account, until ow2 when it should be saved on the bnet account, so you can do this
You’ll start from scratch on your bnet account with the empty xbox account while your brother keeps his progress on the new bnet account, just do this before ow2 releases and confirm the merge in game for the account with progress (or both) and you should be good
Thanks for the help you were the only person to give me a genuine explanation for my special situation and give me a detailed response. And my other question is when I connect my main Xbox account to my bnet would the username of my bnet be the one used for my username in my basically new Overwatch account?
Yes, it’d use the username and ID of the bnet account, so if you need a name change remember that you always have a free name change for the very first time (or you could make 2 new bnet accounts but idk)
Okay last quick question: when Overwatch 2 releases would they have the events form ow1? Including the cosmetics from ow1, so that I could earn them back during ow2?
That’s something i don’t know, no info about it
The cosmetics themselves will stay, how to obtain them is another quesiton, no info about the events, if they’ll cost ow1 currency or ow2 premium currency, etc
