I made this presentation video explaining the concept for a new game mode called The Overwatch Academy. The purpose is to propose a game mode that has a ranking system, includes PVE & PVP, RPG levelling and progression. But most importantly, seeks to normalise the overwatch experience, encouraging a fun, rewarding, non-toxic gameplay loop. For casual and hardcore players.
I realise the forum is based around the in game workshop mechanics… but clearly blizzard made this function becausethey are interested in new modes. I thought players reading this forum might have a shared interest in exciting prospects for new ways to play the game.
Comment if you like the concept (or if you hate it!), does anyone have improvement suggestions for The Overwatch Academy?
This could be an interesting concept for an entirely separate game.
But in the Workshop I don’t think this would be possible, specifically…
List
There can only be 12 players max playing in a lobby and there is no rank filter or queue.
Player data doesn’t save between matches, and servers shut down after an hour or so.
You need to have two bots take up a slot for the bosses, essentially making it a 5v5.
Aside from that, RPG elements are definitely possible.

Thanks for commenting, glad you appreciate the concept in some ways.
Yes I agree this can’t be created in the workshop, I made the presentation to get the idea across in an engaging way.
I only hope to spread the idea of a gamemode similar to this. I am passionate about overwatch and would love to continue playing (I have thousands of hours game time). I stopped a few months ago because the current options for play are not rewarding/fun/normalised. The key issue being that the flawed Competetive Mode is the only game mode with some form of progression. I like the arcades and custom matches, but they only have limited replay-ability.
Competitive mode creates so many variables and negative aspects within its core design. It simply cant work in a positive way for an: ability based, hero shooter, that requires WINS ONLY for personal progress… whilst coordinating with randoms and making specific meta hero counter picks. Toxicity is created within the game mode, but Blizz put out a ‘Play Nice’ video basically stating “Guys stop misbehaving and don’t get annoyed”.
In other shooters, you dont get such bad feels, because if you mess up it’s your own fault.
Randos online can not and should not have to order other players around in the ways which Overwatch forces us to via its core and only progression mode.
How about Overwatch 2? I’d like to see them have a mode similar to this so that you can log on and play your favourite game in the evening, on your favourite hero, without getting flamed/triggered.
