You know, I wouldn’t be surprised actually if they just put through a big patch and updated a few things to make the game appear like it is new when it isn’t. At this point they want to get as far away from the OW2 moniker as they can. Funny thing is, I’d support this if they were willing to do enough of a business overhaul in the shop to win back some good will, convert back to 6v6 and get more creative with player rewards.
A re-brand might actually do some good so long as they quit with the awful decisions they made in OW2. If they DID do it, and screwed the pooch again with the community though…

In OW3 it’ll be 8v8 2-3-3 and they’ll delete half the maps and add 1 new map.
Is it gonna cost $40, replace the battle pass with earnable loot boxes and introduce a radically new concept, two tanks, into the game? Perhaps simplify balance by removing role passives, an idea never heard of before, and also slim down hitboxes and projectiles together with health pools to create a crisper gameplay feel?
They should work on making an Overwatch 2 first.

The ideal would be a reboot, deleting this number 2, keeping only Overwatch, as was the 1, without the need for a number, the same thing would be expected for the Destiny franchise.
Then work on changes within the game, in the characters, in the system, in the interface, in the graphics, etc.

Or, don’t call it a sequel if the previous version of a series no longer exists.

Their only hope now is to revive all the ideas they gave up before releasing OW2. (PVE and skill tree included)

This franchise never had to put that 2 after the name. If anything, in future this game will be renamed in “Overwatch” or The Overwatch, anything without a stupid sequel number.
To me the only reason to exist a new ow, was if they scrapped all the heroes and maps, and made an all new cast to be played in the new game with new maps. But at this point even myself aren’t very exited to try something like that.
Creating a roaster from zero, means you can create whatever you want without thinking to overlap someone else. Anyway, something like the Standard and Wild mode in Hearthstone, can be a mode they can implement anyway. Problem is, the newer heroes miss dps’s and the abilities are made in conjunction of the existing one.
Remember when some people (me) predicted that the Blizzard first person MMORPG in the works was Overwatch 3?
If they did pull such a stunt, I honestly don’t think the game would survive. You can’t dupe the entire community a second time.

Tbf they weren’t actually building OW2 when it was announced either lol

WHERE DO I INSERT MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION?!
Too soon!
They already pulled the sequel card, and with how poorly it went in the long run, pretty sure an OW3 announcement would just get laughed at. It would just bring negative attention if anything.
OW2, despite all it’s promises, ended up being just a monetization update, a team format change (with experiments underway to bring back the old format anyways), and a large content drop of things that OW1 would have gotten eventually anyways if the devs didn’t neglect it for 2 years.
They could promise all sorts of things for an OW3, but why would anybody take any of it seriously after how much they flopped OW2? Announcing and hyping up a sequel and then giving up on the entire reason they were making that sequel is such a historically huge failure, that now nobody would trust Blizzard to do anything better if they attempted the same thing again.

They should announce an anime or something. It was always weird to me they didn’t expand the world as much as they could during its heyday.
relasing anything related to overawtch would be a joke, the overwatch franchise (which never grown beyond just being a game even if had the potential) is forever damaged, overwatch 2 was such a failure it even almost killed the hero shooter genre, after overwatch any hero shooter relased was threated as a joke for being just a copy of overwatch, until the second coming of christ also know as marvel rivals who saved the genre being an actual HERO shooter
The return of 6v6 in all its glory. It’s the only way forward of bringing people back.
Nah, a new monetization strategy hasn’t been born yet. We’ll get three when that happens.

MR doing well doesn’t really mean Overwatch is doing poorly. The volume of negativity on these forums doesn’t really mean the game is doing poorly either, for that matter.
I don’t think an Overwatch 3 is coming soon. Even if 6v6 retains enough demand to become permanent, I don’t expect they’d rebrand to go along with maintaining a 6v6, especially if they don’t delete 5v5 (which, frankly, is my preferred version of the game, and I’m far from the only one who feels that way).
If they feel a need to draw more attention, I think it more likely that they push a faster release cycle for heroes, maps, and modes than a rebrand to a sequel.
Maybe, if they really have a serious and better plan for PvE, that might be a reason to iterate the title. But what they did release was poorly received and had dismal replayability, so it’s doubtful they’ve been investing the resources to do it properly, and since PvE was part of what was talked about for OW2, they’d probably get a lot of flack for iterating the title just to add it years later than expected.
How about we just go back to “Overwatch”
Of course. But 6v6 is to be expected, its too standard of a feature, if you will. Im talking about the new big feature that will truly justify the 3 in OW3.
Now that im thinking about it, they’ll probably just go for pvp 2 electric bogaloo with OW3. But this time totally for real.
