Overwatch 2 Scam

Just wondering how everyone feels now that we know Blizzards full intentions when it comes to f2p overwatch 2. I am also wondering how everyone who paid full price for overwatch 1 on release feels now that overwatch 2 (not really a sequel, more of a big update) is out and they are trying to charge us more for new heroes? To be clear, i dont care for cosmetics.

I personally feel it was a very dirty move to make the game f2p and not honor anyone who paid full price for the game in 2016. They removed a full price paid game from our library and replaced it with pay to win trash. How is this acceptable?

I cant justify paying $120 CAD for diablo 4 when they may just make the game pay to win in 4 years and ruin it.

So, how does everyone feel about this now that we know for sure they are charging for new heroes? Which to me is the definition of pay to win as opposed to other games that went free to play and at least attempted to not make its player base feel ripped off and only charged for cosmetic type things and side grade new weapons. (tf2) At least they arent charging for a whole new class or hero.

I feel the way Valve handled tf2, although not perfect, was acceptable for an aging game. Blizzard completely dropped the ball here and is extremely greedy. Before fanboys and paid shills get on here and tell me to not play it then. Yeah, i get it, im deleting battlenet and abandoning my account. I just wanted to get a general consensus on how the community actually felt about this debacle.

‘Scam’ implies you were ripped off.

You weren’t.

The game went F2P. That was honestly something that should have happened a long time ago to make it more accessible to new players given that most of the competitors to Overwatch are also free to play.

And no, they’re not charging for new heroes. They’re earnable for free, even after the season they’re added in ends. You can choose to buy the premium pass to unlock the hero early, or you can choose to buy a bundle that unlocks them and gives some cosmetics as well post-season, but that’s not the same as ‘charging for heroes’ as we see in other games where you literally cannot play the hero unless you pay.

I find it to be highly unfortunate that the game being called OW2 was designed to be a pay to win game

and of course the “free to play” aspect of the game was heavily advertised, while the “pay to win” aspect wasnt mentioned at all, with many well known shills declaring that the game isnt actually pay to win when it clearly is

pay to win is a very bad thing for any game that includes a competitive element

i was ripped off. I bought a game that was removed from my library. That is the definition of being scammed.

If blizzard would have advertised overwatch as f2p and disclosed that they would be charging for heroes in 2016, during release, i wouldnt feel scammed. I could have made an informed decision on whether to buy it or not.

They are charging for new heroes, i have to grind them out. Which means i cant use said hero until i do so. So i am at a disadvantage in a competitive shooter game until i either grind a lot or pay money. For a game i already paid top dollar for…

Also, if blizzard would honor the fact we paid for the original game and maybe give us new heroes free as early adopters or whatever, that would be acceptable. But they are simply greedy af.

I… I just can’t anymore with these people pulling the “SCAM” card anymore. They don’t even know what a real scam is.

The game isn’t pay to win.

I gain no advantage by coughing up cash and the heroes added to the game in various seasons can be unlocked completely for free without spending a cent, even post-season.

Some people here really need an education on what ‘pay to win’ actually is.

Heroes are the most important part of the game. I dont get a hero until i either pay or grind for endless hours. That is pay to win. I know you are defending the fact you actually paid for the game twice. Doesnt mean the rest of us cant feel scammed.

Paying money can give you a competitive advantage by unlocking heroes immediately versus grinding for weeks to unlock them for free.

There are different degrees of scams.

Imagine you paid for a lambo and in the middle of the night after you paid the lambo off the dealership came and replaced your lambo with a honda civic.

You can unlock the hero for free, therefor the game is not pay to win.

If the hero was always locked behind a paywall, as they are in other games, that would be pay to win, because I would have no choice but to pay.

I get that you want to find boogeymen behind every rock and crevice, but it ain’t here.

Also with respect to this season, the best tank right now is literally Orisa, a completely free hero, followed by Roadhog, another free hero. So you don’t even ‘get an advantage’ by having access to Ramattra. Every counter that Rammatra provides can also be provided by other heroes all provided for free.

“Best tank” is subjective and your opinion. If i choose to grind it out, i wont get the hero for weeks, probably months. That is a disadvantage. Plain and simple.

You realize that in your Battle.net TOS that you agreed to it states that nothing on the account that you pay for you own? You get a license to use Blizzard’s property and they reserve the right to change or take that away at any time they wish.

You were not scammed in any way, you just didn’t bother to read. Your example with the car is completely different and doesn’t apply at all to what is happening in Overwatch.

While it’s definitely not a “scam”

I’d be lying if i didn’t admit to feeling slightly cheated with how they forcibly updated us from ow1 to ow2, and everything that new business model entails.

Again, not pay to win.

As long as the hero can be obtained for free (and it can be, even post-season) then it is not pay to win. Period.

When Overwatch forces you to pay money or never have a new hero because they’re always locked behind a paywall, come back to me and complain about pay to win then.

The game being called OW2 was designed to be pay to win, is pay to win right now, and becomes more strongly pay to win with each new season

To Krojack specifically: while I am unhappy on how the game being called OW2 was out together, I wouldnt call it a scam.

I understand they can take games away when they wish, does that make it justified to you? Yeah, they can remove all your games and tell you to buy them again, doesnt make it good business practice.

Im not debating that. Im saying how they handled overwatch 2 was dirty and terrible business practice. Yeah, they can just unplug their servers and fold and we cant do anything about it. thanks for pointing out the obvious, although irrelevant.

So, i guess you have no problem forking over 120CAD for diablo 4 knowing full well they will probably make it f2p in the future and charge you for yellows???

OW2 has never been pay to win. Period.

Every hero that is added to the game can be unlocked for free. At no point are you forced to pay money.

Every hero that is added to the game can be countered or outperformed by other heroes that are already available to you, for free.

Go and play an actual pay to win game, then come back. It’s a night and day difference. Frankly, you have no idea what you’re talking about.

You already said how I feel. It’s a massive scam. They couldn’t even bother to make the new version of the game fun. The OW team is in full cash grab mode and it shows.

I think Jeff would be furious.

The relative strength of one hero relative to another is not part of the definition of pay to win, and as such, discussion of how weak or strong any given hero is has no bearing on whether a game is pay to win or not

The game being called OW2 was specifically designed from the very start to be both free to play and pay to win

It is becoming more strongly pay to win with each new season, and this was part of the design
