I absolutely love that the devs have included an overwatch classic play mode. This is so much fun. I love having a different style of gameplay, but the matches seem more one sided than 5v5. I’ve only played Overwatch 2 since season 3 and I’ve really only ever known 5v5 and I think 6v6 lacks a center. It is a lot more chaotic. Once again, I’m thankful for it, but I usually only play a game or two and go back to 5v5 for a while. I’m just curious if anyone else feels the way I do.
Once again, this is not an argument to get rid of 6v6, but I think its not the premium team comp.
Yeah I don’t think most people would disagree with this. It’s just a preference difference - some people enjoy the chaos others don’t. That’s why both should have always been in OW2 (or even better, OW1 kept online and OW2 just have 5v5).
I enjoy it to the effect of One-shot dooms are annoying and that match making is 10000x more awful since it is putting me up against ultra competitive players which makes a person feel like they are fighting against nothing but trigger bots.
When I briefly tried the 6v6 mode, it felt like people had forgotten how to play the game. Everyone spread like butter, and it was 1v1’s everywhere. Not my thing.
I prefer ow2 5v5 to the play tests that they did this season. I also prefer it over the 2 classic events as they have a bunch of bugs, and the devs are just picking bad patches that were polarizing. Launch patch makes sense, even tho the balance was horrible. But picking moth meta, and then goats at some point. I’d much rather just play a patch from ow1 that had good balance, not a broken hero or meta. I would be happy to have the last patch of ow1 as an event.
I’ve also been enjoying 6v6 of all flavors. Originally I thought that 5v5 role queue was the best option available because it reduced tank player demand to keep queue times down, but now I see that role queue and its 5v5 tank passives cause a lot more headaches than they are worth. The current 5v5 tank passives make them way too good in anything other than a single tank format, yet most open queue games have no issues abusing tank stacking to exploit these buffs. The locked roles cause extra delays whenever a particular role is not being filled quickly. They also lead to over-specialized players that have problems flexing into other essential characters in different roles, thereby perpetuating the low tank supply issue.
Open queue 6v6 min 1 forced players who were motivated to win to try other roles outside of their normal comfort zone while preventing GOATS. Unfortunately it still exposes teams to losses by those who refuse to play anything else other than their favored character, but that is a normal consequence of having non-fixed roles. However, the greatest benefit is the reduced queue wait times since there are no fixed role bottle-necks.
Both 5v5 and 6v6 have their merits, but right now I encounter fewer stomps in open queue 6v6 when players actually cross the role isles to play what the team needs to win.
I think there are three big issue with the OWC events:
The matchmaking is clearly a bit out of whack for sure. I played some the other night, and despite not having played the game for months, let alone regularly playing quick play, it was consistently matching me against top500 and GM players, including people like Harbleu and Silkthread. I’m absolutely not in the same league as these people.
The mode is definitely very buggy. It’s like 95% of the way there, but there’s definitely a few notable issues that make certain heroes quite unplayable.
They are picking patches where the balance just made no sense. It’s nice that they’re doing these throwback events, but IDK why they’re picking specific instances in time that are basically confirmed to be the worst balance patches in the game’s history.
So all in all, nothing they’ve put out so far is really a great representation of 6v6. I think it’s really not a very fair comparison to people used to 5v5, to pretend like this is the proper 6v6 experience.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just lot of returning players playing 6v6, because new mode means it has it’s own MMR, meaning if someone is really good, vs someone who is comparatively worse, they get matched with each other, because there is no prior MMR/skill to base off of - once again, because it’s an entirely new mode.
yeah, this is what happens when you don’t take skill/MMR off of Ranked/Quick play, and apply it to the new mode, you get good and bad players paird against each other, because the system is still “learning about” their skill/MMR.
Because each mode has it’s own skill/MMR for the player. (and I suppose different skill disparity constraints too)
I think their matchmaker isnt aggressive enough at recalibrating/decaying people. I played like 15 matches and all but 2 of them.
Now, personally I dont really care. I had fun and I dont really get upset about losing like some people do. But that said, it’s crazy to me that I can lose that many games and the matchmaker still thinks it’s a suitable MMR for me. I pretty much havent played QP, let alone 6v6 QP, in years.
well yeah, but if the matchmaker considers T500 players “noobs” or someone worthy to play against against someone who lost 12 games out of 15, that’s just partially matchmaker and partially the unknown skill that could have transferred from other modes.
