Let’s face it. Overwatch 1 has fallen off in player count massively, and imo, this never had to happen. What is happening with Overwatch 2 should have just been overwatch 1.
So overwatch 2 promises more heroes, maps, and PVE content…Isn’t that what OW1 was supposed to have?
What happened was that the team’s development moved at a sluggish rate. Their focus was on new skins(which is their money maker), but they forgot that skins alone isn’t enough to keep a playerbase.
Instead of trying with these PVE events, they went the laziest route possible and did repeats (lucio ball, halloween event) these are all just slightly modified each year if not the exact same…The catch being there are brand new skins for you to gamble on!
Now. What should have happened is that we shouldn’t have been getting 1 hero a year. Overwatch should have been updated with meaningful content, and with unique PVE modes(which were story oriented) rather than these cut and paste PVE events over and over.
Blizzard: “Why is our playerbase leaving…We’ve added so many skins! Do they really care about new heroes, maps and pve events?”
Yes, Blizzard, we kind of do…Overwatch 2 is a realization that lazy development will not cut it. We should have never reached this point to where OW2 needed to exist.
I’m not sure I understand how it’s lazy to do the same amount of work as they were “supposed to” and pack it into a product that can potentially make money instead of promising unlimited free DLC. There are negative ways you could choose to look at that, but “lazy” doesn’t make much sense.
I dont care if they release new DLC, they gotta earn more money, pay their programmers, artists… What I can not tolerate how slow they are with patching and balancing changes. They need to do balancing changes more frequently,I would understand if they were small indie company, but all this coming from multibillion dollar company is no excuse!
Thing is OW2 DOESN’T exist…yet. All we have right now is confirmation that a game is on the way eventually. So what becomes of the game we are all playing right now? Maintenance mode, they’re just not allowed to call it that for fear of lost investors. No way they’re that disconnected that they don’t know we see right through the PR speak.
So OP is right, OW2 should have never needed to exist. Its basically the devs telling us to just deal with this incomplete product for a couple years while they repackage it into newer, shinier incomplete product.
Still would have liked to have been given at least a map maker if we were just going to be abandoned like this. At least then we could just make our own content.
I just got Pokemon: Sword. I paid about as much as overwatch was once upon a time. They come out with new ones every 2-4 years it looks like (and let’s be honest, it’s basically the same game every time). It’s literally sold more than any other product on the day it came out. They aren’t constantly updating the old games. You buy it and that’s pretty much what you get. You don’t expect new pokemon releases every 2 or 3 months. You wait until the new one comes out.
Overwatch is allowed to release a new game. People had to have gotten their money out of it by now.
Overwatch was what was left after they crashed hardcore with Titans.
Overwatch should have been what Overwatch 2 now promises, Yes.
But i am glad they made something out of the Titans-debris and can now deliver their original vision. Bonus points for the fact that you don’t have to buy OW2 and can still play with OW2 players.
This means every hero that shows up in OW2 will also come to OW1. And with more money (and less influence from Activision) Quality may improve with additional funding
It’s been 4 YEARS. How often do new borderlands and other sequels come out? I’m going to stick to my guns here and say, it’s okay for them to divert attention from a 4 year old game into a new game.
if you really think that OW 2 comes from the blizzard side i would say you are wrong. Im certain this comes from the activision side of activision/blizzard
Which is fine, Its just getting REALLY annoying that they seem to never have the time to put attention into the current live game properly. Seems like there’s always something happening to divert resources away from the game we are playing. OWL then Role Queue(which has been good but no way it took this long to make) now OW2. Seems like the OW we are playing never gets the care it deserves. What’s to stop this from being the exact same problem with OW2?
and you seem to be ignoring the 4 year part. Surely you can’t expect it to just be updated forever? They have to make money somehow.
Also, you don’t have to buy it if you don’t want to. You’ll still get the characters, just not the pve stuff. Not to mention transferring over cosmetics which I’m shocked at. Consider it the PVE dlc then. If that makes you happier than calling it overwatch 2.
The destiny franchise says hi BTW, and yea sure we get all that whenever they feel like releasing it. Still no date FYI. Till then this is the product we are stuck with. A PvP only game with barely half of the features of similar games and those that we do have are incomplete or not user friendly.
everything OW2 gets as far as heros and maps and game modes is coming to ow. how is that diverting resources? it may be taking longer but its still being put into overwatch. You are Objectively incorrect.
had a few people working on it from the OW team before the game was even released
how the hell is working on a system the players have asked for for years to put into OW diverting resources from OW???
nah it just seems like youre entitled and throwing a fit because things aren’t exactly what you want to me.
Witcher 3 is a single player game.
Multiplayer games take a lot more work and money if you want to keep them in a good shape.
Also both DLCs together had a whopping 50$ price tag on them.
