Overwatch 2 needs a SIGNIFICANT engine upgrade!

With other games like fortnite upgrading to unreal Engine 5.2 and Counter-Strike 2 it’s time that overwatch followed suit and gave us a truly impressive visual overhaul…

Especially with the new pve coming out this is a fresh chance to impress the audience…

lol, you know that OW2 is running on the better engine(than OW1). they just dont use most of it in pvp, you will see it when pve comes in. but your funny.

also the subtickrate thing, has been in OW since like 4 years now at least. it is a gameplay setting, dont remember what it is called though.

I hope you don’t mean OW2’s engine is better than UE5 coz uhhh…

Heh…

UE5 is insane, especially with Lumen and Nanite. Insane amount of potential

honestly running UE5 is a hard thing to say. Nanite is developed to help performance more than anything. Its more down to what you’re trying to run that uses it.

If you’re trying tech demo’s then they’re gonna try and squeeze everything it can offer.

OW’s performance is already extremely good, homogenizing all these games to the same engines are just going to homogenize the flaws.

I don’t trust them with upgrades. It needs optimization.
The game runs like :peach: after the so called OW2 upgraded engine and still looks the same if not worse.

i mean than OW1. sorry for the ambiguity.

I’d call even optimisation an upgrade. Graphically the game doesn’t really need a change imo. Stylised is nice like that tbh.

I mean
2022 fortnite was still using UE4 pretty sure, they just updated the lightning since chapter 2

Ow team is more focused on enviroment such as snow storms for PvE

Lightning is kinda there, screenshots of numbani sunset look freaking gorgeous, but also map ain’t available so ggs

Honestly 2022 Fortnite looks really ugly now. Not saying 2018 is great but it has a consistent visual look. 2022 went too far into trying to bridge realism and animation style graphics and it kind of just looks like a mess.

first that is a disingenuous comparison. the fortnite are two different images.
second, you do understand what aesthetics are and that they are not controlled by the engine. specifically any map made for OW1 will have a similar look in OW2 due to the fact that it was mostly using copied assets. compare the new pve when it comes out and then we can talk.

have you checked that your settings are the same and have not changed. that is something that happens. personally i saw a 30fps uplift from the transition. then i got a new computer and i can run it at highest settings at 200fps. with lowest settings i can run it at over the fps cap.
so i think that is a your computer problem.

What are you reasons for changing the engine? What can another engine do what the current one can’t?
And Overwatch 2 is already an upgraded engine from OW1.

And what you would like to see?

I don’t think there needs to be a new engine, but them taking full advantage of their new one they tinkered on for years. Where is the individual day and night cycle for the maps? They just need to change something in the skybox and light. But they do nothing with it.
A modern engine would look nice, but don’t forget that Blizzard games are always for low-end computers in mind for a wide audience. And while crypto is kinda going now, I’m not sure that people are in a spot to buy a new GPU.

Cool, you find me an engine that can run at 240 fps on a 970 and look as good as Overwatch 2 and you’ll have a point Fornite can’t even do that with DLSS lmao.

UE5 as it stands right now, OW engine is beyond it at a competitive level.

As for CS:GO 2… beyond tick rate and visual upgrade is stuff that existed in OW1 so /shrug but if they exceed OWs fps and achieve these things sure I’ll give it to them. (That said, CSGO is still probably on the most competitive engine right now but I wouldn’t care to call it)

Will say the visual tech on UE5 is next-gen but I’d rather be at 300+ fps landing my shots than look at an RTX-soaked Overwatch.
