It seems this community is split on whether Overwatch 2 is an improvement on OW1. Of course, there are major improvements in terms of graphics and sound (the audio is absolutely top notch IMO), but that’s not where people are complaining. A huge change is in switching from 6v6 to 5v5. Personally, I really like the 5v5 gameplay.
I’m a support main, and yes, supports feel like a completely new role. It’s much harder to play support now. But their role in 5v5 is much different. Overall, a team needs less heals, and so supports need to rely on their utility more than ever. It’s been tough adapting to this new style, but it feels like skill is rewarded more than ever before. Since support seems weaker, a difference in skill between opposing supports is much more evident. Players can’t simply hide behind the power of their hero. They actually need to work to make an impact on the match.
I’ve always opted for role queue. When it was released it made the game much better for me (as a support and tank player). But now in OW2, I think I actually like open queue more. I’m definitely biased in that opinion, but I think open queue works much better with 5v5 and the current balancing. I’ve really enjoyed matches with 2 tanks, 2 dps, and 1 support. I always pick the 1 support.
What do you guys think? Is 5v5 better, and are supports (though harder to play) in a good spot? Is open queue a lot better in OW2?

5v5 role queue will be the most popular game mode
Yes, surely it will. But I think open queue works a lot better in OW2 than it did in OW1.

The fact that OW2 tanks are so powerful, having the option of picking more than 1 is bad.
Just a clutch for people that want to play OW2 like OW1 by hiding behind tanks/barriers, increasing the ttk in the game.

Not really. In OW2 open queue, if you don’t have as many tanks as the enemy team, you will most likely lose. More tanks shifts the power balance significantly.

Yeah the game is definitely balanced around 1 tank/ team. But in a game with 2 tanks, support feels much stronger and much more enjoyable to play.

Kind of agree here. 2-1-2 was a fun open queue comp. As was 4-0-Moira. You have to use Moira with four tanks.
3-0-2 and 3-1-1 didn’t work well. 1-3-1, 0-3-2, and 0-4-1 didn’t work if the enemy team had multiple tanks. You just got run over.

Good point. Tanks have been given much more power in OW2. I just notice some of my best games have had 2 tanks on each team. It can extend team fights, but it’s fun to die less often. Ideally in open queue you would want a 2-2-1 comp (which if enforced isn’t open queue). But I definitely agree Moira is op with a tank heavy comp! I play Moria, so perhaps that’s where my bias crept in.

We actually had to stop running 4-0-Moira. Enemy team kept quitting. We had one map where the enemy team was completely replaced four times! We had fun, but it was obvious the enemy team wasn’t.

I think they need to let non watchpoint console ppl into the f***ing game and then we can form an opinion
Haha, that would have been fun as the Moira player. But obviously the balance gets completely out of hand.

You would be welcomed with open arms. Keep running into the same players. A little better on Thursday after they let in some console players who requested access.

I feel like this is heavily reflected in how your team plays. Right now everyone is playing pretty poorly, or rather it’s easier to tell they are, especially on the new maps. Supports struggle due to this and seem to be forced into taking things into their own hands. For me, a Moira main, that’s fine, I’ve been doing that for a while now. For less “observant” or “aware” people however, they are perceiving this to be some kind of game flaw, when in truth it’s a reality that’s been there all along slapping them in the face.

Completely out of balance. You have to match tank count to have a chance.
Which makes me worry about mystery heroes. Tried a few homemade ones in the workshop, and things rapidly got out of hand if one team got a tank count advantage.
I agree. But I thinks it’s due to the new game environment. I played very poorly for my first 5-10 games. There’s a lot of new stuff to learn. Players just aren’t used to it yet. I also agree support seems to have to take things into their own hands. But I find it very much rewarding to play well as support now. It seems like skill is necessary now, whereas in OW1 some supports were carried by the hero alone.
