Overwatch 2 high CPU usage and low GPU usage

Title. It always happens when I launch the game and it creates audio stuttering the CPU usage is always above 90% and the GPU is below 40% and when I play the game but the gameplay itself is smooth and the FPS never dips below 60 and I play at medium, this doesn’t happen in other heavy games such as COD CW or warzone. My CPU is i7 8750H and GPU is GTX 1050ti mobile

Same here, 75-80% CPU usage with a quite good cpu i dont understand…

Me too was trying to change every setting on my pc and reinstalling win11 to 10 and back and nothing changed
-NVIDIA 3d setting
-windows graphics setting
-launching it with d3d11
-changing OS

Same here, 1050m + core i5 + 8gb RAM.
Tryed lowest resolution available and lowest graphics, everything. And still having too much frame drops. It’s so bad…

I’ve been having the same issues, I think it’s because of the last update but not 100% sure I’ve tired almost everything. Pretty sure it’ll be a patch fix, hopefully anyway. I really want to play and being able to play at launch to having audio stutters and fps lag and sometimes 0 gpu usage suck. Also have 14 penalties for “leaving” games when I either genuinely couldn’t play or because the game took so long to load I got an afk

Same problem here, I haven’t been able to find a fix yet. I think that It was caused by the latest update. I have a PC and a dedicated GPU.

Same issue!! I think it started happening after the patch that brought bastion and torb back. Have to play some games of extremely low fps to get it a bit stable

This just happened to me today, right after starting and joining unranked all-roles. I restarted the game right away, because it was shuttering hard. The CPU was close to 100%, that’s 8 cores @ 3.6GHz. After restart the same was happening, the menu already, was at 75+ % CPU. After like 2-3-4 minutes, just before I found this thread and logged in, it stopped using the CPU in this manner and went back to normal ussage.

It feels so weird considering how OW1 ran perfect on my PC with the CPU Usage being around 50-60%, Now it’s at 80-100% on the OW2 Engine that makes it practically unplayable. I wish this game could be better optimized or use up less CPU because it gets very frustrating that every other game works on my PC in comparison to OW2 that just dies a minute before I get to run it.

Same issue. Game uses near 100% CPU (2.6 and 12Cores), PC has a 3070 in it, I dont understand - nothing i’ve done fixes it. Then I play the game on my spare PC with equipment barely meeting the minimum requirements and it runs smooth as a baby’s bum.

Has ANYONE out there found a solution? After reading this post its nice to see Im not alone.

Same exact issue as @Spello mentioned, fixes after a few minutes of having the game open but in the mean time its 100% cpu usage (ryzen 5 5600x) and ive just not swapped my 3070ti (which had 0 issues with overwatch) to a brand new RX 7900 XT and the issue has just happened, ive reinstalled drivers using DDU, and even went to the extent of doing a complete clean install of windows 10 and the issue still persists. Would be nice if anyone can shed some light its not deal breaking but its very annoying considering it just randomly happened.

I’ve found a fix for this, atleast for mine it worked. Set your GPU workload to Compute for the first run rather than Graphics. It should run the game enough to tank the CPU usage of 100%. The CPU usage of 100% only happens on the first run of the game, after 5 mins, it will simmer down to its normal usage which is now consistent through every relaunch of the game (unless a patch happens or idk). After tanking the first 5 mins, and seeing the CPU usage go down, you can now revert the workload to Graphics if you want to.
