Overwatch 2 has lost all player trust through monetization

maybe watch the video?

I know I’m not the only one who saw the pieces falling into a natural Tetris. And since they had more inside info and such, they also weren’t surprised as they knew months ahead like everyone else who payed attention to leaks/behind the scenes info.
So, by the time it was revealed I had known for a good few months. So did they, I imagine. But you can’t care at that point. Not much you can do. Let PvE die. Good riddance.

Blizz has been acting like they have the goodwill of their fans from two decades ago. Spending it when they have none.

Yet people will still defend Blizzard saying cosmetics don’t matter or that the prices of skins help fund the game and will “improve” it in the future.

Once again the copium that monetization is the problem… it’s not. No one really cares. People complain about monetization but still play the game. Hell, they complain because they still play the game. There are games with the most predatory monetization models humanity has ever come up with, employing psychologists to squeeze the last dollar out of someone, and the “squeezees” smile while spending their last cents.

People quit games because the game is bad. People lose trust because a game is declining in quality or not receiving proper updates over a long enough period of time.
No one quits because of a battle pass. No one quits because of expensive skins. No one quits because of loot boxes. People quit because they’re bored. That’s why a single 3 minute trailer is enough to outweigh all monetization complaints in these forums. No one cares. Remove all and any monetization and the game’s population will not increase. No one will reinstall the game thinking “Wow, the game is literally the same except it has no battle pass! Now I’ll have fun again!”.

Yes, there are the 0.001% of the game’s population who are actually ill, who actually play a game despite bad gameplay just because of skins. They are an insignificant amount.

That is sad. I recommend you find a game the gameplay of which you actually enjoy, not just getting arbitrary rewards.

This is probably their only real mistake. Giving you kids so much stuff for “free” in OW1.

I mean, they are releasing two new game modes with new maps for free in season 6, but the only thing being talked about is how PvE missions come with a battle pass and cost an extra $5.

I have a lot of fun playing the game, but I play video games for the gameplay, not to play dress up, rofl.

And I find this incredibly odd.

It’s also the most hateful gaming community, which is kind of ironic.

Because it’s not homogenous, unlike most games, and developers can’t decide, which category of players they actually want to keep.

So no one gets to enjoy game reliably, as another change that messes with your fun is always right behind next corner.

Thats the thing, its something that has been digested, puked and re-eaten a gazillion times in YT.
Anyone that follows 3+ CC that play OW2 sometimes has seen that type of video at least 8 times. When you start hearing the same narrative, it puts you to sleep or annoys like hell.

Its really annoying, lasts way too long for the meat of what is being said, and all of it, has been said before. Its a re-hash done for views/money, which is what they get for these type of videos.

Nah thanks.

The lack of free progression easily contributes to that.

The free lootboxes you could earn in OW1 weren’t just there to justify the paid lootboxes.

-They give a reason to finish matches, as you didn’t get one if you rage-quitted a match
-They were consolation prices because you could get one even if you lost, you just had to get XP from 5-6 matches.

I can’t express how many times I had a 6-7 loose streak where my team was basically stomped, and at which point many consider uninstalling a game because it’s unfair and unbalanced, but suddenly getting a legendary skin out of those free lootboxes, instantly got your spirit up, and made you play one more match.

Rewards are INCENTIVE to play, there is no denying that fact.
Some people might judge it at say self-absorbed stuff like “wHy arE yOu pLayIng JuST fOr tHe sKins, iF yOU dOnT enJoy thE gAmE?”. But that is a straw-man fallacy. Twisting out someone’s argument to make it easier to attack is just a blatant trick to invalidate the argument. Just because I enjoy free skins doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy playing the game. I enjoy matches, I like to strategize, I like to think how I can help my team the most during a match. BUT I LIKE TO BE ALSO REWARDED FOR MY EFFORTS, and if I only see the DEFEAT screen 10 times in a row despite doing my best, the lack of free lootboxes I would’ve gotten 3 of by that point become PAINFULLY noticable.

You just made a strawman arguement. Kind of ironic!

As to the Stylosa video, he lost me in the first sentence. How naive does he think his viewers are, as to believe him he needs to make the video for his own mental health and not clicks and money?

It wasn’t , there are at least 2 comments just this thread that literally said that I should “quit the game if I ONLY play for the skins” while I never said that I only play it for the skins. I ridiculed their argument, but I didn’t twist it out, it was word for word what they said.

Overwatch isn’t game about getting your spirits up, it’s more of a game about crushing your spirit.

while bad I dont really care about the monetization. its mostly characters being crap to play against / with that never gets fixed and never will be thats turning me off.

Bad monetization was already there Oct 4 Sty , my dude … the player trust was lost when they backed out of the PvE project.

And sorry for the ad populum but yeah, everyone knows this. The rest? is drama for clickbait/views :man_shrugging:

Blizzard no longer exist.
Call the company with its real name.

The game just reeks of corporate greed. No mutual love for the players anymore.

Especially the ones that stuck around for years between “sequels”. There’s nothing worth playing this game for. It’s just an exercise in frustration with no rewards.

The funniest part is they are pushing all these in game purchases, for a game with a very uncertain future. While I don’t think the servers are going to shut down and die any time soon, Blizzard already abandoned all updates to the game for a period of years when making OW2.

PVE content they decided to scrap, meaning it’s not unlikely they will abandon updates to the PVP eventually as well. Kind of reminds me of those games that sold MTX options till the day the servers shut down with zero warning of it happening.
