Overwatch 1 private servers could be incredible

So far there’s only one I know of in very early development, plasmawatch. Hopefully more people are working on some, but what’s really exciting to me about it is…a balance team that’s not blizzard! Wow…just imagining what 6v6 overwatch would be with an actual good balance team. My dream private server would be open queue 6v6 just after ball launch and the team balancing goats out of meta by just nerfing brig hard or buffing aoe dps.

There’s WoW private servers that have done the whole “what if” thing like a vanilla server that develops based on what if tbc never came out and they just did horizontal progression. Very cool. Maybe overwatch just needs a “what if brig never came out” private server.

A mid-late 2017 private server would rock honestly.

If you actually just named them, you’ve kinda doomed them to a take down notice.

Seriously? If I can google “overwatch private server” blizzards lawyers can too. If they cared to take down this stuff they’d be on top of it before me. WoW has a ton of private servers and blizz don’t care.

If it actually became popular you bet it’d be shut down.

Usually they’ll wait until a private server has asked for money in some way and then it’s a iron clad shutdown or be sued case.

But outing a particular one on the official forums is … probably not great for them?

Hey, I hope they’re successful and all and it’s more than likely this will be ignored with everything else we say… but … I wouldn’t have.

Do not worry. Blizzard does not read anything we post here. Bobby Kotick is a loser.

See? I am safe. Maybe. Probably? Bobby, baby, you know I love you! We were just kidding around. Ha ha… Ha. :face_with_peeking_eye:

There are ways around it. If they ask for money directly for game access yeah they’re screwed, but my mentioning of it here is not going to harm them in any way. If they wanted to keep this hush they wouldn’t have posted on a public forum about it. Private servers are legal as long as they aren’t profiting off it and it isn’t a direct clone of a game they’re currently selling licenses for.

OW1 doesn’t exist anymore so private servers can legally be made if the creators don’t take profits from it.

That is VERY dangerous grounds you are walking on!

Yeah, there was a big “hit squad” put on by blizzard to stomp out any non retail version of the games and that if it was discussed. There was heavy punishment for it. VERY heavy.

It meant LEGAL teams from Blizzard decending down on any person even mentioning such a thing.

I will just say this. it brought in Classic WoW, which we were told for years and years and years that “we were only getting one version of WoW, be happy” which people turned around and said they would pay for WoW subs to play CLASSIC.

They did it, and the respect meter for blizzard grew again. But then bobby had to do bad things, and the forgiveness was gone, again.

i think if anything, Overwatch Launch day should come about under the Authority to Operate by BLIZZARD and they should bring back “overwatch classic”

Source? What grounds would they have to sue anyone for mentioning a private server? That’s absurd. Freedom of speech. The most they can do is ban me from the forums.

you
dont know what that means do you

I have watched basically everyone i know stop playing OW and this would bring them back probably.

oh god that would be fun.

downside is private servers of games usually have way to many bugs so the end result would be an inaccurate experience people would use too say the game was bad back in 2017 lol

Strictly speaking they are not. But generally for most companies they would not be worth going after unless they were using the IP for profit. If you’d like examples go check out what Nintendo and Disney do to people using their IP’s for personal projects.

Just because someone doesn’t prosecute you for it doesn’t mean it’s legal.

An Intellectual Property is a thing to be guarded, especially if it’s profitable, regardless if profit is made off of it’s use or not, it’s about who gets to use it at all.

Yeah it means I can’t be prosecuted for saying “hey guys there’s an overwatch private server”. Dumbest thing I ever heard. This isn’t north korea.

no, its means the govt cant arrest youy for it
Anyone else thoughh is fair game

Blizzard would never do this because it would mean nobody would play OW2

And for good reason

I think people still overestimate “classic OW1” servers. Especially here in the forum. But for people who like it its good news.

I know it would never happen but in this day and age of game devs/publishers outright deleting their old game in favor of the new one (lets add cs and ark to the list now) there should be some law that protected others standing up these games as long as it’s a non-profit.

Of course the actual effect of this law would mean that they’d just keep the old game up instead of letting others do it (think of sony continuously putting out spiderman movies to keep the ip), but I’d still consider that a major win for consumers.

Pay attention in 3rd grade social studies. Free speech does not apply to privately owned entities and does not mean you can say anything you want anywhere you want without repercussion.

Like, if Blizzard decided tomorrow they wanted to ban anyone who says “potato”, they could because they own these forums.
