I have a friend who works at a videogame store give me some codes from OW 1 and one of them worked and let me redeem 10 lootboxes. Since lootboxes are gone do I just get nothing?

Here’s your answer:
Loot Box sales ended on August 30, 2022. Loot Boxes will all be automatically opened with the launch of Overwatch 2 at which point all remaining unopened Loot Boxes will be automatically opened upon entering the Hero Gallery.
After Overwatch 2 has launched, any unclaimed loot box codes from any source will grant 100 Credits.

Every time you leveled up you would get a box containing a few free items that ranged from currency, common unlocks, and even gold skins.

If you are not sarcastic and really wanted an answer: they removed lootboxes, because of restrictions in other countries and that people started to push back against gambling in video games. We now have a system where you can buy the skins you want directly without needing to RNG your way through the system. The skins are pretty costly tho (20 bucks per legendary skin).
