Hello from the forum’s resident dooming looney. These last few weeks have been very difficult for me. For the last 10 years, i have been a diehard fan of Overwatch. 1000 hours, Hundreds spent on merch and skins, inspired me to become a semi-professional artist.
My love for this IP is so high and after the playerbase collapsed in the last month due to Marvel Rivals, I could say i’m on the 5th stage of grief right now lol. Now dont get me wrong, MR is a fun game, but being based on an oversaturated comic universe i never cared for, it just isnt the same…
Tbf, i kinda wanna quit gaming overall. I never felt so disinterested in upcoming releases. As i get older (im 30 now ) i realise i need to get my act together and pursue my art career exclusively and find my niche. As I’m getting quite into contemporary fine art, maybe the money i spend on skins could be for investing in others’ artworks and some extra materials.
overall, im touching grass
I wonder if there are others in a similar situation??
You certainly should find a better investment for your money. Nothing wrong with spending on the game, but hundreds spent on skins is not something one should do because it just encourages their bad pricing on them.
As far as the game and it dying? Nah, it’s still plenty lively. Don’t let all the people being hateful distract you from the fact you can still find matches in under a minute, people still play the game as long as the game is good. There are several examples of 15+ year old games that aren’t the talk of the town that still have healthy sized playerbases.
to me, a “dead game” is dead as soon development is dropped and updates are ceased. Game can still be online, but if its abandoned, its dead imo. HOTS, Team Fortress 2, Titanfall, Starcraft, Paladins are all decent examples of what i am talking about
Imo, that is very likely for OW2 in the near-future if nothing changes
I probably have more time on OW than any other game ever, but I’m pretty disconnected from it. Games come and go and I’m so bored of OW. I should leave the forums but I am so beloved, I couldn’t dream of having my fans go without.
Welcome to growing up! I hope you find things you are passionate about and you spend time on/with those things/people. Yes, I’m aware what I just wrote. OW has an entire non-gamer fanbase if you’re confused.
I am allergic to touching grass. But I play the game more or less depending on how much fun I’m having with other games. If you don’t feel like playing the game, don’t. Have fun and best of luck with the art!
I’m a gamer™, I can’t stop.
These days very busy taking care of my parents (I’m also in the 30’s) and it eats a lot of my time. But when I get a hour or two (or more after like 10 pm) I’m gaming.
The only way I could move away from this again is to start dating, and it’s not worth it. Gaming is cheaper.
Best of luck on what you find out there. I’m gonna be a nerd until my hands make it clear I can’t anymore.
See, i still enjoy the game per-say but i am just nervous about its future. And overall, without overwatch, gaming is just boring now. Im not excited for much besides GTA6, which i probably wouldnt play much anyway. Not to mention that all the highly-praised essentials of the industry are either mind-numbingly boring cutscene-soup or brutally difficult “bang your head against a wall 200 times for a moment of dopamine” soulslikes…
So, play it if you’re in the mood and having fun, and don’t play it if you’re not. Soon we shall see what’s coming in s15; how big of a shake up it is. The game still seems to make quite a bit of money, I don’t imagine them stopping development for it anytime soon.
Can always keep an eye on the game if you like too. If it looks fun, give it a try down the line. Doesn’t cost anything, so nothing really to lose from asking and break.
i hated it lol found it so … ugh … quit halfway through a game … which i dont normally do even if being stomped. (ie ive finished games where there was only myself and one other who hadnt quit ) and yet …:
It’s not a surprise but shilling didn’t actually make OW a better game in the end. Hopefully the people here feel any sort of guilt for buying skins and continuing to log in or play when they were told time and time again that they along with Blizzard, were always in the wrong. Congratz on the realization but MR is still better, I wonder if you figured out the reasons why.
I skew the other way: if the servers are up and people are still playing it, I consider the game to be alive. There are MMOs and MUDs from the 90’s that are still around. Good for them and the gamers that enjoy playing them.
some may try to diminish your post but this is serious, if someone who loved the game so much got hurt so much by developers incompetence and greed is leaving is for a reason, game is on a terrible state, there is no future, there is no hope, and game is alive yes, but from a certain point of view its so death, the franchise is very death, no lore, no hype, game is not trend anymore, people outside the fanbase have no idea ow is alive, the only news the game have are controversies from blizzard, not the game itself, anyway the game has nothing to offer, what made overwatch special died, is just a game like any other in the market, apathy is worst than hatred
Yeah, this is becoming more of a problem. Trust is finite. Putting your heart and enjoying anything is kind of human nature. The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s apathy. You care about something, you feel that love like nurturing a plant (community) and when it gets exploited for something souless, and then seeing that cycle across more and more things, how can you expect to get into anything ever again knowing it’s just going to be taken away from you? I enjoyed all the fan animations, discussions, banter and that care turned inward. That’s why there is so much ‘hate’. They’re frustrated with the disease, not the patient.
