Orisa spear and gracie should go through DM

Can anyone give me a legit reason why orisa spear and junkerqueen knife shouldnt be able to go through defence matrix when sig rock and hog hook can?

Sig rock = orisa spear
Hog hook = gracie

So….???

Ps: this is not a ‘dva is OP’ post. This is just highlighting inconsistencies between near identical abilities

Tokki only likes to eat shiny things, rocks are not shiny

You trying to say tokki is a gold digger?

They used to before when D.va was considered “bad”.
They changed it, and now D.va is considered “good”.

Also Genji deflect… especially considering they took out a ton of it’s counterplay.

You’re right, defense matrix should eat Accretion.

Maybe – I mean, it certainly feels like they would bypass it like Sig’s rock/etc

But I also feel like it is a power dependent thing. Like if DVA suddenly didn’t feel “strong” as a tank then I feel like I’d tear her apart with Orisa if she couldn’t eat javelin. Between the spin and javelin throw (especially since it would interrupt her DM), I would just bully DVA away. (Especially since javelin barely has a wind-up and would interrupt her defensive ability)

It just feels like since both abilities (knife/javelin) get tossed out so freely, quickly and accurately, then balance wise, I can see them being eaten by other abilities.

Nah. Let sigma be able to rock.

Defense matrix doesn’t need to bypass this.

Either Gracie should go through DM or Junker Queen should have a tearful voiceline for when Gracie gets eaten.

Orisa’s spear is an energy projectile like her gun, so that’s why on that one

As for the knoife, it did go through those things and was unblockable except by barriers in beta 2, but it just seemed a bit silly and too much. Made D.va and Orisa pretty helpless against Junker Queen.

I can’t remember what they said, but I thought one of the devs posted in the forums way back explaining why DM can’t eat sig’s rock… it made sense (in the context of the OW universe), does anyone remember the reasoning?

Is it maybe because a smaller weapon (knife, javelin) is much easier to consume with a defense system made to eat small-scale bullets and missiles and the like, than an entire FREAKING boulder?

I think hog hook should be blocked too.

Because both knife and spear are proper projectiles, i.e. they don’t have a connection point to the character who used them. You can think of a hook as “Hog stretching himself”, it’s not a proper projectile.
This is also the likely reason Genji’s deflect blocks it because it’s also capable of blocking melee so I assume the logic is similar there.

But balance-wise, I think DM should be able to block more stuff now that the barriers are much less available and there’s only 1 tank. However since devs buffed other aspects of D.Va kit, it’s fine where it is I guess. Oh wait, they will revert some of the buffs anyways, at least partially…

So it sounds like sigma’s rock is considered to be a buildable like immortality field or torb turret which is why it can’t be eaten or deflected. So I’d assume Orisa spear is the same.

I know that the technical explanation on why Rock can’t be eaten/deflected is that it’s a buildable, similar to Torb’s turret, Hammond’s mines and Bap’s Lamp.
But I don’t recall there ever being a lore explanation for it.

Well i feel personally pretty helpless as junkerqueen when my core basic ability that i rely on to deal consistent damage, apply bleed stacks and set up kills, is so easily countered by dva holding DM up.

Just make rock/hook edible and it is consistent :woman_shrugging:

If hook is eaten he doesn’t get it back rest of match!

There was a custom mode that allowed D.Va to eat enemy players with DM.
It was hilarious :joy:
