I think Orissa is more versetile than Reinhardt but they are so different in style. Both have shields but they work so different.

It’s weird how Orisa isn’t really picked more the higher you climb.

Versatile heroes have higher pickrates. If Orisa is more versatile, she’s even more of an abysmal failure.

You think Reinhardt is more Versatile? I mean he swings hammers at people and shields. I think Orissa shield makes her more able to do things than just stand there with the shield up and throw a projectile at times.

She isn’t all the versatile in my opinion, but she certainly makes a great sail for a pirate ship.

Yeah, because Reinhardt can actually move. Orisa can be used in immobile cheese/spam comps, and that’s basically it.

Reinhardt can move around in a slow phase with the shield up, yes, sure. But Orissa can push the shield forward, move around with shield up, pull people together with right click, blast people with her normal attack, become immobile in a Mei ult or otherwise hell AOE and shield allies while doing that. Support the whole team with her ulti.

Reinhardt got a better melee, a right click that is pretty long range, a charge that is dangerous to use, an ulti that knocked in a cone and his shield he can move slowly in.

I prefer Orissa since I think to me, she got more cards to play.

Pick rate doesn’t always mean better or worse, I know some tanks, myself included, who will play Rein over Orisa, million bugs and all, just because I find him more fun, same with Reaper vs. JR

I will say Orisa is better in a good number of situations but I’d rather crush someone with a Charge

Orisa has no cards to play. Reinhardt has CC, AoE damage, an engagement tool and a more versatile shield. Reinhardt might seem slow, but when Lucio presses E the big German man seems a whole lot scarier.

Overwatch League pickrates have nothing to do with “fun”. Orisa had a higher pickrate last stage because Lucio sucked.

Orisa is better at defending a point, but Dive being fast paced, and the coordination being higher up top counter acts that. I’d be prepared to bet that 90+% of that OWL playtime is a mix of Protect the President on Junkertown and NYXL on control maps

Orisa was great and versatile for a while because mercy could resurrect her instantly if she died when the enemy pushed into her bunker. Those times are over… that’s why she’s now back to being a rather niche hero.

How is the shield more versatile when it’s bound to him and it makes him “stationary”? You say Orissa is stationary but you can put a shield down for your team and go do whatever you need to do elsewhere.

Rein need to be in their face. A good combo do not allow him to be in your face.

Junkertown isn’t in the map pool anymore. It’s actually mostly from Nepal Sanctum.

the reason for the lower pickrate might be that:

  • its a hero that need aim to damage things (and she’s not hitscan!) compared to rein swiging his hammer
  • against a competent team that now how important it is to focus and break the freaking shield she is less effective
  • her ult takes FOREVER to get and his lackluster

It makes me laugh when i see people complain about orisa and how her shield has supposedly 100% uptime… only people that doesn’t know the meaning of playing as a team and pressuring orisa think she’s op…

Because you can’t move it. If an Orisa puts down a barrier, you can just Speed Boost past hit and Earthshatter their entire team for free.

I meant over the whole season, they used her a reasonable amount on Oasis City Center in stage 1 as well

Orisa’s technically better, but more complicated to use. If you use her just by standing behind her shield and shooting, you’re not going to last long. You have to manage and constantly use all her abilities to be better than Reinhardt, but most Orisa’s you meet in the game aren’t mains and can’t use her abilities fully.

Case in point, if you’re a tank buster, you’ll likely notice that most Orisa’s don’t shield dance when you manage to get around their shield even tho knowing how to shield dance is supposed to be a mandatory requirement for an Orisa.

Orisa’s shield, if used well, isn’t completely immobile, you can keep up with a mobile team if you combo shield and fortify. It’s just that you need to micro manage your cooldowns so you don’t fumble and end up a sitting duck because you oriented the shield wrong.

So on top of the shield micro management, you also have to make full use of your halt by tracking all the hidden enemies, and perfectly timing your fortify with the rest of the cooldowns and healer to keep moving. All these timed perfectly together makes her the best tank in the game, but if you don’t time them perfectly and don’t use them continuously, you may as well pick a different tank because Reinhardt will turn you into a frying pan (And the rest of your team into pancakes) if all you can do is shoot from behind a shield.

The point of an anchor tank is that you have a frontline that can’t be shot through. Orisa shields stay where they placed and cannot be moved until Orisa places a new one. Reinhardt can move his shield to adjust to a repositioning Widow, hold up his shield while they run, he has the flexibility to adjust where his shield is and change it at a moments notice, bound only by it’s durability.

I was GM Top 500 with Orisa a Season. My experience is…
Orisa is my favorite Tank, i wouldnt say shes the best because i think there is no best Tank but Orisa is playable vs every Teamcomp in my experience.
For example Winston is not.
She will beat every other Tank in a 1vs1 full life full cooldowns easy if you play her well.
Her supercharger is a 99% win if you have it ready in the last 15 secs as a defender. Thats why she is so good in defense for me.
I prefer her over a Rein because her abilities are so good and she has range
