Let’s go through a hypothetical game.
You’re facing junker queen, and figuring they don’t have much power to block projectiles and wanting to reliably shut down her axe swings, decide on the power that throws a spear when you shield spin. Already you have to aim more often and balance the 2 uses the e button has, making the character more engaging and skillful
Then on round 3 wanting to continue playing into the build you can pick an effect that gives both of your javelin’s a pull, you can give spin deflect to get even more effects onto your spin, you can lower the duration of both spin and javelin during fortify meaning even more javelins, or you can lower the spin cooldown at all times in exchange for a heat mechanic, or perhaps you are dying too quickly and want one of her general defensive upgrades which are useful on any round. Let’s say you pick the heat upgrade, now you really can be javelining constantly, but you also really have to micromanage your heat bar
Then round 5 most of the previous choices are still sensible, other than perhaps the deflect. Taking advantage of my heat generation, I choose the ability that throws a barrier when overheating. Now every time I press e I really have to juggle to land the javelin, get value out of the spin, and place the barrier at a good spot.
Then round 7 comes. A lot of choices remain good, but since I’m overheating constantly I may want the upgrade that burns nearby enemies when I overheat. I also may want to take advantage of my already high ability power and how fast ults build in late game and take the power that makes my ult build even faster. But I take the burn, and now there’s a 4th thing I have to do when I press e which is to get near as many enemies as I can before overheating
As you can see
- most of her powers are useful
- there is a large number of possible builds and variants within builds
- a lot of her powers are a good accessory even if they don’t directly synergize with the build
- most powers add a new layers of skill to her kit
- Which power to get is a tough decision even in late game
This is the ideal of how build mechanics should work in a mode like stadium. And this only covered the powers a lot of the same compliments apply to her items as well
