Orisa Barrier Mental Effect

I’ve be watching a few videos from last year when Orisa was first released and I’ve realized something about her barriers. Back when she was first released, her barriers seemed to have gone down in 4-5 seconds. It doesn’t make sense that her barriers are going down slower now since shield break is stronger than it has been before.

One thing I’ve seen is people saying they don’t shoot at her barriers since she’ll just have another one. This matches what I’ve seen in-game a couple times, my shield is almost destroyed after about 3-4 seconds when the enemy team seemingly gives up.

Does this mean that the problem with Orisa’s barriers isn’t their cooldown, it’s the players?

the barrier is honestly very weak if everyone is focusing it, usually it will be dead with a few seconds left on the cooldown

I think the bigger problem is the lack of understanding on the part of the players facing the Orisa in question.

If you cant take into account the cooldown, barrier health, and the timing of the Orisa, you’re gonna have a bad time.

Flip side, you can time against her. Poke at the sheild, take it down, poke again and then rush. that second poke is going to force the max time on cooldown and then Orisa is dog food.

Yep, its kind of a cause and effect thing. Because not everyone shoots the barrier the ones that do are just giving up and so its staying up permanently I still shoot her barrier all the time trying too help bring it down so I can kill her but nobody else does.

So because those who didnt wont help the ones that do the ones that do give up and wont bother and so its left unscathed. People have given up because they know its on an 8 second CD and because its so strong, if its not brought down fast then its back up immediately.

I always took issue with this and hated it when they buffed her shield CD because I knew this would happen. Now it might as well be up permanently.

The shield could break easily if everyone on the team is actually trying to destroy it. It’s still makes me angry when my team takes down an Orisa barrier and then she sets up another the next second. I think it’s both the cooldown and the players though.

Okay, first off, i main Orisa, but i’m also the tankbuster when she comes up. Most of my roster hardcounters my main.

Got put in a game in Dorado with 1 minute left, payload barely left the starting point, enemy is a six stack. Okay, what do we have, we already have a Sombra, so i can’t use her, two tanks, so i can’t use Orisa… oooh, enemy has an Orisa! Bastion it is! Hey, we’re gonna lose anyway, may as well go try flanking with bastion! Lets try this tunnel.

4 minutes later, we won. WTF??? So this entire game was held up by an Orisa and nobody was shooting the shield until i came along??? Are you freaking kidding me?!

There’s definitely a mental aspect at the start of fights when Orisa can pre-place a shield and immediatley replace it. With Rein it’s definitely a different feeling, because you know once that shield breaks he’s vulnerable for awhile.

I think the real issue is team comp though. If you’re playing a dive comp with heroes like Winston, Tracer, Genji, Lucio, Zen, etc. who is breaking the shield? The idea is to go over and around the shield, but obviously that requires some coordination.

Communication matters as well. If you tell people to break shield, they usually listen. If everyone is free lancing though, some players probably see trying to break Orisa shield as a waste of time.

So pretty much Orisa has a false state of balance?

You know what grinds my gears? When players do everything they can to try and get cheeky shots around the shield instead of just burning it down. Their actions per minute grind down to almost nothing, they don’t kill anybody and I’m the only guy dumb enough to stand there shooting the shield.

People do not shoot at Orisa barrier because doing 1800 damage alone is tedious and time consuming. You also may get dived on before you are done anyway. Others follow the same reasoning.
