So I’m fairly still pretty new to Overwatch, I played Overwatch 1 when it was pretty much dead, and then hopped on the OW2 hype train. I love Open queue because I’m not a master at a lot of characters in a singular role, but I am really good at a few characters in each role. OQ allows for me to play at my best and allows teammates to swap roles if one or the other feels they’d be doing better playing something else. I know a lot of people like OQ because of the chaos. I do too, but something’s been ruining it for me and it’s the same meta every game…
3 tanks, 2 supports
At first I was like “oh cool,” but then it became a reoccurring theme, whenever my team is winning the enemy team goes three tanks and just starts steam rolling, and in retaliation my team has to go three tanks just to stand somewhat of a chance. Maybe this is just a lower elo problem or a skill issue on my part, but I really have grown tired of the same team comp, both playing it and playing against it. I climbed all the way to Plat 2 as a Mei, Dva, Mercy, Soldier, Orisa and Ana main, but now it’s like I’m either playing Orisa or Ana almost all the time.
This post is getting pretty long but I bring this up because I want to ask more players what do they think is the best way to fix this issue? I don’t want to come off as hating on those that like 3 tank meta, but it seems so genuinely unfun for me and my team. Would it be right to just ban that specific team comp in general or do I really just have to give up playing my favorite game mode and comp all together?

I’d personally like a 1 tank limit. Also fine with the idea of tanks having less health/taking more damage when there are 2 or more of them. Where one tank is best, 2 is still good, 3+ is a bad comp.
Lead hero designer has acknowledged tanks are an issue in open queue, and said he hoped to have tank nerfs for non role queue modes in season 3.
This is why RQ was put in the game. Too much sustain makes the game boring. Same reason they implemented hero limits to start with.
Open queue was always the fun mode until bad hero designs with too much sustain ruined the game
This is a reflection of the incredibly jacked up damage in Overwatch. Tanks can’t tank jack unless they have a high amount of sustain.
I can vibe with that, or 2 tanks making a comeback, and/or making it so having more than one tank on a team “nerfs,” the tanks in a sense. I’m glad they’re acknowledging it because OQ made me realize just how busted tanks are in general. Why play a DPS when you can just play essentially DPS but tankier?

Damage creep started after the sustain creep as a direct result of it. Ana, most other overtuned supports, and Orisa started disrupting the game long before the damage creep began.
As much as I love her, I can see that. When I play Orisa I feel like I’m downright unkillable sometimes if I just manage my CD’s well enough, or have one good support with a high healing output.

Depends on their skill level. When I see four tanks and One support and my team running nothing but dps then yeah that’s a rage quit
Two tanks is the absolute minimum to have any kind of fun in this mode. Reminds me of the Glory Days
Idk. I see three tanks and go. (Let make them regret it)
Or what chaos are we gonna create with this. It silly fun and should remain that way. Silly fun
That and I love when a losing team quickly goes 3 tanks to try and change the battle. Only to fail nonetheless
