Priority requeue speeds up your queue time by lowering the other requirements of the matchmaker. This leads to poorer game quality. Please give us the option to just requeue normally. I’ll wait longer for a better quality match EVERY TIME.
I don’t believe it actually does this, it more or less puts you in front of the line versus that of a regular queue… much like how you get the skip the line of people waiting for a theme park ride after your last experience didn’t work right. In the end, the same parameters to make a match still apply (which is comparing the hidden MMR of players in each role and try to come up with a near equal team average to within a minimum 40% win expectancy).
It puts you “in front” when it can. That means for DPS queue. If there isn’t an actual queue (any other role or game type), it lowers the guardrails. It’s literally the only way to speed it up. The same parameters do not apply.
They shouldn’t have called it a queue because people think of it as such when it’s not. The only time it behaves like a queue is when there are so many people in one bottlenecked line (competitive DPS) that there are many people where all of their other variables are the same as yours in the algorithm except for the time variable. Priority requeue artificially alters your time variable to make you appear to have been waiting longer. If there weren’t other people with all the same other variables as you, your 50/50 game became a 40/60 or a 20/80. The “it won’t start a game unless it’s between 40/60 and 60/40” is a bald faced lie. Blizzard has the stats. They know when they balance a diamond tank and gold healer vs a diamond healer and gold tank that the higher ranked tank wins 90% of the time. But they start those matches because they think people would rather have an unfair match than wait. Priority requeue just makes it worse.
it’s been documented by the devs that the longer you spend in the queue: the matchmaker gets less fussy
this is to prevent GMs having to wait 40 minutes in quickplay
so it seems plausible that the re-queue puts you back in the queue with at least the previous widened matchmaker value
(other that player in the top 1% would have to wait pointlessly again until their range is wide enough to match)
That is correct, but those are in extreme circumstances when queue times go as long as 10 minutes or longer. Again, priority requeue simply puts you in front of the line.
Extreme circumstances?
That happens pretty often.
It lowers the quality of your games because when you click to start a game, you are not in a “queue,” you enter an algorithm. You can not move up in a “line” when there is no line, but an equation with many variables.
what evidence do you have to support this conclusion?
and there is no “line”, it will be implemented as a set of tickets in a pool that are sweeped and run through a constraint solver at periodic intervals
there is an Activision patent which describes how it works in exact detail, as well as a long video from a blizzard sweng at a conference describing the matchmaker algorithmically
for reference: I am a sweng that works with real super high performance matching engines (e.g. NYSE/ARCA/NASDAQ/LSE/Euronext/…) for a living
He won’t come back to acknowledge he was wrong and is ignorant on the matter. Blizzard is infallible in his eyes.
yes the MVPs are an… interesting group
presumably the aim is to turn it into a job
but the problem is: they already set the price of their labour… and they set it at zero
what rational company would feel the need to start paying someone who has shown they will work hundreds of hours for you for free?
I like having priority requeues personally, but if you don’t want to use it you can just restart your game client and you will have a normal queue.
For me, Priority Requeue means getting dumped into an already evolving disaster of a match that i just finished. It puts you in a never ending loop of terrible matches. If you are reading this and you quit matches before they are over, grow up. It’s ok to be part of a bad match and follow through. Yes, I’m frustrated right now haha.
