I was playing quickplay and I received a group invite mid game 2 times in a quick row. The second time I accepted thinking that it’s someone on my friendlist who just wants to observe the game or join me the next game. Upon accepting I found myself kicked out and be the spectator of my own game only to see that the name that invited me was the opponent Hanzo that I was constantly killing. I guessed they got annoyed and used this trick to kick me out and apperantly it worked! I have no idea how this is even possible.
I checked the replays and game reports and the game isn’t even listed there. Nor is it listed on the the last match screen. I however have the players from that game on the recent players screen. Other than that it’s as if that game has never happened. Has anyone else come across to this? I should report for cheating right?

This has happened to be before, and yes its possible still.
It can only be done in QP and such, as you cant annoy competitive player when they are in game.
My recommendation to you is to not have invites enabled from randoms.
I have reported this already previously as a bug/abuse function, nothing came out of it.
That is in my opinion, abuse of a features made to connect with people.
Reporting it wont make much effort, just fix the root cause and adjust privacy settings.
And this is a one off thing, once you fall for it you’ll never fall for it again.
I never accept invites mid match anymore. Y button is too far from most buttons anyway.

Weird glitch!
Sometimes I get invites by my “enemies” aka players, either on the opposing team or my own team, who are toxic and hate me for whatever reason. Just dont accept them! Check the name and make sure you have had good interactions with them first.
Usually people do this to check your rank or see if you’re in another group already.
The fact that it kicked you out is the fault of developer incompetence failing to foresee how these features are abused, willingly or not.

I’ve had people try to do this to me before, or I assume they’re trying to see if I’m in a group (I never am all my friends quit this game
) I changed my settings a long time ago to where only people on my friends list can invite me to groups.

This has been around since OW1.
It’s like falling for the “press alt + f4 to power up your character” or something.

It doesn’t help that “Invite to group” and “Avoid player” are on top of each other, so it might be just on accident when they try to avoid you that you get invited instead.

Friends can’t invite you while you’re in a QP game, unless they come into the game to spectate you first.
It’s not your fault, but live and learn.
Check replays now, if you haven’t played 50 more games. It might show up with ‘ABANDONED’. You can spectate it (but there’s a bug so if that doesn’t work, you can Pin the game in Replays, unpin, and then watch the game) if you need to.
You can avoid/report that Hanzo and it can fall under cheating, but I might go with gameplay sabotage. You can even put him on your avoid list and report him every so often, because if he’s doing this to you, he’s 100% doing this to other people.
So that’s why I’ve had a toxic af enemy tried inviting me to their group mid match before. I had to click no 3 times, i figured they were just trying to annoy me.
What sore losers trying to cheat like that.
It’s useful sometimes to balance the teams, you invite someone on the other team and they flip to yours.
I 've always assumed that’s how you spectate a friend’s game, by inviting them to group first. I didn’t know that it’s the other way around. Thank you.
And yes, live and learn, I won’t fall for this again.

Is it not possible to press escape after accepting the invite?
You didn’t ask for this novel/FYI, but I’m going to write it out in case it can help anyone else in future.
Not including them streaming, there’s about 3 ways to spectate friends in-game. One is after the game with a replay code (which is irrelevant to this). The other two are while the game is live, but you right click (or w/e console button) their name from your in-game friends list menu and can click either ‘Spectate’ or ‘Join Game’. The difference between those is ‘Join Game’ will pull you into the game and on their team if one of their teammates leaves. With ‘Spectate’ you’ll only be able to spectate.
If they are in a penalty-inducing mode like QP or RQ Mystery Heroes, you can only invite them once you’re inside/watching the game. If they accept/you become grouped, you no longer are ‘Spectating’ but are using the ‘Join Game’ function (you’ll get pulled into their game if someone leaves).
If your friend is in-game but not in a penalty mode, you can just invite them out of their Arcade or Custom game and it’ll pull them out of it and into Menus with you (or w/e mode you’re in).
Regardless, Blizzard should patch it so the enemy can’t inv you and rip you out of the game. Since it affects so few people and many of us know how it works, it’s probably very, very, very very low on their priority list.
Failure/embarrassment/stress/trauma often teach us lessons we do not soon forget.
That’s pretty hilarious. If I somehow fell for this, I would not have the courage to admit it. You are very brave and honorable. You should pick up Reinhardt.
Damn that sucks bro, if you press alt+f4 in game it will bring up a list of recent players and you can report him that way.
This has happened to me a few times too but in a slightly different way. I always ignore it or reject it. I’ve noticed people do this who are in my team, I thought this was someone in my team trying to coax me into voice chat but I wonder if it’ll do the same thing as you’ve described instead. Interesting!
Every time I do it it gives our team in advantage. Not my fault the developers are stupid
