I literally don’t even want to play it. Tried mercy and symmetra and it was just awful. I know it’s an experimental patch but if they put this through thinking it would be fun then what is the state of overwatch gonna look like in the future?
Funny enough it got worse. They did a minor bug fix… which makes the Patch notes listed in game no longer tell you anything about the changes… SO most people have no idea what is new or not.
Was literally trying to find the patch notes lol didn’t know they did that 🤦 had no idea what I was doing on Zen because I didn’t know what was changed lol. This patch is awful. I’m just worried they put this out the way it is, it must mean they think it’s good to some degree and that’s a scary thought.
This isn’t just your opinion. It’s reality.
It’s so bad. They essentially nurfed all the tanks, buffed all the dps, and really messed up the supports. I could understand modifying one character at a time, but all these changes are ridiculous.
Symmetra heal is a false buff, actually symmetra healing is useless if you compare to any other healers.
Is just a taxi bot for players pick and thrown fast on objective.
Congratulations, another ExC destroyed by dumb OWL players.
Agreed. The tanks feel terrible to play with no damage. The ideas for the supports are interesting but way underpowered. DPS feel “okay” but very underwhelming. These experimentals are supposed to be “over the top” and instead feel so underwhelming to play that I think I’ll go back to quickplay.
This patch is so bad that it made me scared thinking about, “what if I feel this way playing Overwatch 2 for the first time.” If you think about it, Overwatch 2 is really going to feel like an experimental patch, just with more content. Rofl.
Idk why they don’t implement in custom games ability to modify and create experimental changes like they are doing with these content creators.
Is another tool to allow users create modes, that MUST be integrated to custom games.
They delivery these changes on-demand, so game can accept these changes like custom games.
We can except OW2 that, OWL will be more on top of control about hero balancing/buffs/nerfs.
Except for community not begin listen anymore.
The difference between this ExCard and OW2 is that the changes for this ExCard were made by 4 players instead of an entire team of people dedicated to balancing with playtesting.
Lemonkiwi put up a Youtube vid explaining her thought process on the changes to tanks, which have their valid points. However, she changed how the role of tank played without really considering the other two roles, which fundamentally broke the expected experience (wacky changes to heroes in a familiar style of play).
She also noted in the video that there would be no opportunity to playtest anything with the proposals, so it was a lot of big sweeping changes to a role (in addition to the various individual changes) with no chance to see how much they would affect the entire fight.
The change made to the tanks was so drastic that it made them do minimal damage while also living forever. So unlike the typical game, all of the team’s damage is reliant entirely on the damage players, and they have to push through 2 tanks with insane mitigation and health.
Lemonkiwi has already said she is hoping the devs can help balance it back to something more manageable:
So, no, I don’t think this has any real bearing on how OW2 will play. Don’t get me wrong, it will be significantly different, but given a year or two of balance testing in 5v5, it won’t feel nearly as bad as this ExCard by a long shot.
Edit: changed order of statements to flow better.
I feel like they should have play testers in house to test out these changes, no? Instead of relying on their users to do all the testing for them. They could have easily seen the issues in-house and restructure the characters before putting them in the experimental game for people to play.
I think most of their in-house testers are playtesting OW2 at this point. These ExCards are meant to be of minimal impact to the dev/balance teams on OW2 because it’s a few tweaks they can make to the existing infrastructure. Granted, my gut reaction on hearing “all tanks deal 50% less damage” was “oh no. This is going to break the game,” and I agree that someone should have probably pushed back a bit on such a drastic change.
anyone got a vid/clip of how the ExC moira orb works? I ain’t reinstalling to see ty.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cp94pWMVxAU
Moira is at 26:18, orbs specifically at 26:38.
It’s basically at a set pace unless you use your grasp for 1 second, in which the orb goes flying much faster. Feels a bit like a nerf because the orb will almost never move at the slower pace, and just rush by teammates that need it or enemies you’re throwing it at. Not sure if this matches ML7’s intentions, because a lot of his other suggestions for other supports seemed good.
Her explanation showed she doesn’t fundamentally what is required to make her version of tanking work. She stated she was going for the MOBA style or more traditional MMO tank. The only reason those styles work is because tanks in those game can force the other team to deal with them. There are forced targeting and similar mechanics in those game that do not exist in OW.
Tanks in OW claim space by having comparatively shorter range and potent damage within that range. They do not have a way to make you attack them. If you take away the damage they can no longer claim space.
You didn’t need to do a play test to know the damage was too low, just simple math would handle that. How could you not know that Winston’s and Dva’s left click doing less damage than a melee is a bad idea? Rein and Zarya do like 42 dps. All you have to do is compare those values to healing abilities to realize they are too low. She has a Masters degree, this level of theorycrafting is easily within her capabilities. The excuse of “there was no chance to test the changes” is a scapegoat for the fact no actual attempt was made to even understand how the changes fit within the game.
Oh, it’s worse than I though lol. Thank you so much for the vid.
Not sure why ML7 wants to nerf her when she’s already one of the worst supp lol. The orb going by so fast means it barely damags/heals anything by the time it leave too as no slow down like current orb ahh…
I am not sure how to tell you this, but having a masters degree does not make you competent in any other area than whatever the specialty was. And lowkey, even then… I have seen some stuff.
I think what would have worked would be if the orbs dumped more heals/damage per second to compensate for the speed. At those higher ranks, the orb probably doesn’t feel as effective considering how slow it can travel when trying to hit players.
Idk how this experimental could top the “Pro” experimental where they gave Tracer 25 extra health and made hack take over a second, that was easily the worst experimental by a long-shot
I mean at least this one actually experimented with things, the main issue is that the developers completely butchered it like they’ve been doing with the main game recently
