Open Queue vs Role Queue

OQ is garbage just because RQ exists which is “ez” mode in terms of ballanced teams, where you have to flex only in your role roster. Remove RQ and restrict tank stacking up to goats (limit 2 tanks, but dont require to have it every match, 0 tank is good to go) and you will have the best game in the world.

RQ should be the way how it meant to be played. OQ for these which either wants to chill, or flex around…which means 70% of the time, u have to play tank. U cant rly complain when someone wants to go 3rd DPS which is very usual…gotta roll with what u get there.

I usually chill there, but leavers, throwers are not that uncommon in that mode, since not many people arent taking it seriously.

I feel that you are not alone. I too share that feeling.
I believe that a queue under roles is a vastly superior way to play for me, over open chaotic queue.

I am very happy that it received Jeff’s seal of approval, and is currently the main way to play the game.

Since flex q you get much more balanced games in open q, but thats just what I saw in my matches.

I never got this mentality that because OWL plays role-queue, that’s how everything is meant to be. OWL ALSO has fully composed teams of 6, but most of us don’t play that way either. Also, isn’t OWL literally half-dead regardless of the queue swap? IDK this just feels like a flawed argument in general.

As for the point about open queue being confusing – I think people can understand a basis concept of “this queue has role-locking, this one doesn’t.”

I’m an OW vet and I quit the game until OQ came back because I am a flex player at heart who absolutely hated not being able to be flexible for my team. If my team wants to run 1 tank 4 dps 1 heal, fine, I’ll solo-heal. It feels like I have agency to actually change the game in my favor. 222 is much more strict “oh they’re playing x healer I should play y basic healer counter and hope the DPS do their job please lord jesus”.
