If you’re finding Comp to be frustrating, full of horrible matches, bad players, and the matchmaker seems overly oppressive…
Go try Open Queue.
It’s way better.
It’s the game as it was designed, and always should have been. I see mostly good comps, good players, and frankly… I’m shooting up the ranks into high Plat. Where Role Queue seems happy to screw me over every single time and keep me at a lower rank.
Role Queue queue times are longer, and the result is never a decent match anyway.
I stopped wasting my time on Role Queue, and any time I try to go back to it, I’m quickly reminded how annoying it is.
I went back to Open Queue, and haven’t had this much fun with OW in years.
This argument has never made sense to me. So what if it’s the way the game was originally designed? As players/metas evolve and changes are made, there are certain core issues that arise and one of those was GOATS (go all tanks and supports). Open queue right now is literally always GOATS if you play above like plat.
I’m sure it’s got nothing to do with open queue players generally not being very serious about it, or not as good in general. I remember in OW1, top500 open queue was like 3.4k SR.
It’s always been the case that people get much higher rank in open queue as long as they at least try, because the vast majority of the serious players play role queue. If I had a dollar for every plat role queue player I met who was top 500 in open queue, I’d have… several dollars.
i am master on open queue just by playing tracer and i can confirm that open queue > role queue, in open queue the teams are not stacked and the tanks are more vulnerable and easier to kill when you are dps.
the problem with role queue is that the team concentrates all their resources around their unkillable tank which makes that the fights never advance and drag on while in open queue the teams are dispersed and are not stuck to each other.
the game should have always been like this, brigitte just deserved a nerf for her heal and stun and the game could be playable again and the goats would already be dead.
Sorry to burst the bubble. But open que has much less player base, especially at higher ranks. This is why almost everyone can climb to higher rank in open que. Sometimes, you can get t500 in low diamond in open que. Back in ow1 I helped a gold mercy main to get t500 icon in open que before😂
I did this, had 10-20 great games in open queue, went up immediately bronze 5 → bronze 3 → silver 1 with probably 70% win percentage (and the losses were still great games) and then all of a sudden the last 10 games I end up in games where teammates once again look like they have just gotten OW and are trying to figure out how to play or what heroes do and we get spawn camped (one game on numbani last my team had ZERO kills all game, a likely premade of 4 tanks + mercy that just obliterated us).
It’s like the matchmaker knows how to make good balanced games, but after you win a bit it tries to make you carry at all costs, which sucks because I don’t want to carry, I want to play with similarly skilled players, if we win sure, if we lose whatever, but at least we’d all be comparable-ish.
Again GM2 player here both console and PC, I swear this is the Madden Effect ie, throwing INTs, fumbles, sacks after you’ve been balling for 3 straight quarters. OW is supposed to be a 50/50 game every match. The devs realize you are on a win streak so the MM algorithm throws in some boosted bought accounts or bronze smurfs to roll you and even out that 50/50 ratio.
I had good games and climbed to Gold 1 until the last two weeks. I always keep note of my current serie: you win a couple of games (sometimes balanced), then I get a 6-7 lose streak, always stomps or people that don’t seem to have too much experience with the game.
I just tried a new series in open queue, it was a disaster: lost the first match, won two, then a losing streak of 8 matches, always stomps. Then I tried role queue: won the first one, got stomped thrice. Then I decided I’m tired of this game, it’s not even worth trying to climb. I’d probably play a couple of games in quick play, then if things don’t change I’ll simply uninstall the game at the end of this season and move on
Did you check their role que ranks? Last time I checked, many of the T500 open que players are diamond or low master in role que, at the end of the season, but that was a while ago, before ow2.
