If that happen (which I doubt, given QPC precedent), wouldn’t that prove that open queue is the superior mode, and that 2-2-2 role queue was a mistake?
I just like the game mode because it allows me to practice heroes and people are actually trying to win (more than they do in quick play).
It is the superior mode. But the community can’t be trusted to play the game properly at least in lower ranks. And in higher ranks you will get goats etc
A mode that has no roles and eventually players get tired of other players failing to do the job, so they swap to get the job done themselves? Wow, I’m surprised that’s what happens.
That’s why you queue with friends. Even something as low as a 3-stack picking 1-1-1 within themselves is enough to give the whole team some direction.
There is some inherent fun in playing not knowing what you’ll meet in your next match, but I understand that’s not for everyone. But if you are going solo queue, you are risking yourself to whatever random stuff the matchmaker throw your way.
If you don’t trust the community, minimize the impact of matchmaking by grouping up.
or you would get 5 supports in one game who “can’t tank, but are totally okay on dps”
We’ve had 2 “seasons“ of it so far…I honestly chuckle whenever I see these posts because my experience couldn’t be any further from what people claim
Plenty of tanks/supports…plenty of willingness to change…and plenty of discussion…
Here’s the one thing I can say without question about open queue…it’s not always 222…which is perfectly fine by me…but it’s also not always goats or 5 dps that people tout on here…In fact in my personal experience those things never happen…I’m lucky(?) I guess…
And because it’s related I will add the following…
THE solution to this games woes was to have fixed LFG…it had unaddressed problems that had they simply iterated on and improved would’ve eliminated the need for role queue and the messes it created…but alas…here we are
Amem to that, sister brother.
Give people some incentives to group up (eg, XP multiplier based on team size), some incentives to not bail from a LFG group as soon as you lose your first match (eg, XP/Endorsement bonus for playing with the same team successively), and maybe occasionally not matching teams with another equal-sized team so people who solo queue are in an inherent disadvantage now and then.
I’m not a game designer, I don’t know how feasible those suggestions are, but Blizzard gave up on LFG too fast and then moved to rewritting the whole matchmaking algorithm to comport role queue, instead of even trying to fix it.
brother…but yeah…not a SINGLE change/improvement was ever made to it…not ONE
It’s frustrating if you team is struggling and you can’t switch role.
I accept and understand that the above is how you sincerely feel, but it remains an opinion stated as if it were a fact.
For many of us, myself included, role-less queue is far superior to the restrictions of 222
there is no one “proper” way to play the game
this is indeed one of the many severe problems that 222 added to this game
That’s why like open queue more. Yes it can be toxic with 5 dps but you can at least try to communicate and usually after a good team fight you’ll see your comp becomes good again.
And despite what many people think, you can’t dismiss the simple possibility that you might win with a 5 DPS team. Especially now with all the DPS powercreep that happened in the last year.
I still hold the belief that players who give up on the match when the team don’t have a perfect formation are much more an issue for the team chances to win than that imperfect formation on itself. Morale is a strong factor when you are in a team game.
I get 4+ dps in perhaps one in every twelve matches in roleless queue mode
Multiple times. Yesterday I had a sniper dual instant lock hanzo and widow. Our team is like fk it and pick doom junk soldier. I picked Mei (why not)
We just dominated the enemy team. Luckily we can little heals from the payload and soldier, and it worked out so well.
I have seen 6dps teams beat 222 teams many, times
100% agreed
the expression “the game was lost in the lobby” is often used by folks to blame their team for its composition, but for me, it is the person making this statement who primarily caused the loss
All I can do is lean back, sigh a happy sigh, and revel in how it’s not my problem anymore.
The vast majority of the players in the game is between silver and plat (~85% by the last known numbers). We commit mistakes all the time, and as is the nature of random matchmaking, we don’t really have much time to aclimate with the rhythm of our teammates before the match is over.
On such situations, personal confidence and hero familiarity is much more powerful than “meta comps”, because all meta comps requires some level of team coordination that we can’t count on them in ladder.
I always preferred have 5 teammates on a “dysfunctional composition” that are confident on the heroes they picked than a perfect comp where half the team is grudgingly accepting to play someone they don’t like on the promise of a win. Because if we don’t win, those players are a ticking bomb that eventually will start throwing blame around because they are “taking one for the team”, but are not seeing results.
If no one is “taking one for the team”, then no one have the right to demand something from each other. If by random chance you can combo and coordinate, that’s a nice bonus. But if you want coordination, form a team. Don’t expect random matchmaking to do so for you.
Role queue gave lots of people the illusion that they would be in a coordinated team. But all it did was limit everyone on their individual options to counter the enemy team.
(I still think 2-2-2 is a great rule to endorse on OWL, Contenders and OD. Professional tournaments can have separated rules from your casual playerbase)
