That’s why you make it optional for Quickplay, that way you actually get people who want RoleQueue for Quickplay.
If it’s “forced” on them, they will just get Leavers and people going DPSOnlyMode on Tank/Healer.

I 100% see this happening in comp too, just more playing tanks/supports as DPS than leaving.
Well, that’s also a reason they should make Roadhog more a “Tank” that protects his team.
That way, Dva + Roadhog doesn’t equal auto-lose to an enemy Rein with EarthShatter.
Being a master level DPS player isn’t going to be nearly as impressive if someone is only Silver as Healer and Gold as Tank. They’re gonna want to pump up those numbers which will mean actively playing those other roles.
Sure, the game will still heavily reward one tricking within each role but that’s better than the current system that heavily rewards one tricking with the entire roster.
Balance being easier means that it will also be easier to for players to find and exploit balance problems.
It’s also not going to suddenly be easy. We are still talking about balancing at least seven characters in each role on PC and Consoles across a variety of skill and coordination levels (You’d also have the question of how you want maps to play into it).
Do keep in mind that you are one of the players on your team and not on the other team as a result, if you are playing more useful heros than average you will win more matches than you lose do to hero selection if you play enough matches.
Additionally, you are still going to lose at hero selection.
People can pick characters that don’t work well together.
Additionally, some of the ranks are going to change a fair bit.
Right now, a player’s SR is based on all of the heroes that the person in question plays.
With the changes coming it’s going to be based on each role. This will likely mean that the players you run into at the top will start to be better and those you run into at the bottom will start to be worse as players will not be at higher or lower sr than they deserve due to performance on other roles.
Certain ranks may also start to have less of certain heroes.
For example, Torb and Sym both have abnormally high winrates in Bronze. Unless performance SR manages to keep them down, I think it’s likely that given enough matches most Torb and Sym players would get out of Bronze if they didn’t spend too much time on other DPS heroes.
Sombra, Tracer and McCree have terrible winrates in Silver. Unless performance SR manages to keep them up, I think it’s likely that given enough matches they will mostly fall to Bronze if they don’t diversify their DPS selections.
You’ll have some exceptions as some people playing optimal or terrible heroes will be good enough or bad enough that their hero selection on it’s own will not be enough to drop them.
As the higher ranks do not have performance based SR you’ll likely see the same thing happen at higher ranks with heros falling completely out of some ranks with the exception of truly outstanding players.
Players that play whatever the team needs that are actually helpful to the team at the present time are possibly going to lose SR. As they may not be able to hold their SR on any of their roles unless hero selection can offer the same advantages.
Getting to the right SR may also take a bit as players may not queue enough on each role to reach it in a timely manner.
You might need to raise the level requirements for competitive to ensure new players don’t get a lousy experience. If you place into the low ranks because you are new and don’t know much it’ll take some time and lousy matches to get out.
Depending on what exactly playing in comp at the bottom is offering people it might depopulate.
Yeah cant wait for 10 mins q time. They already suck. ( probably on in eu where the game be dead )
You would think so, but it can also reinforce one tricks who stick with one hero in one role.
I mean… It already is… Except now we have more DPS on top of the two snipers instead of tanks and healers.
Sure, but at least those who are fine with having two unranked roles will have less of a negative impact on the average player’s game-to-game experience.
Depends how they do it. If they just make it so the que is 2-2-2 but you can pick whatever you want it will work fine.
Forcing 2-2-2 will have a negative impact on the game as it will take power away from hero switching.
Actually it would help them more… lol
Cannot wait to see the reaction when people realize that obstinate players will still be obstinate. When the majority of the players they get on their team in the DPS pool are still bad but now someone else cannot switch into the dps slot to help.
When suddenly you need a Dive tank but the two tanks don’t know how to play them so your stuck.
When suddenly both your healers are off healer mains and neither will switch to main.
When suddenly the most powerful 2-2-2 comp in the game is unstopabable because its best counter was a NON 2-2-2 comp.
Its going to be a big surprise for a lot of you.
Ya just how LFG would make things right after so long right.
here’s the deal, you guys are a bunch of whiners that can’t accept losing with gross misconceptions about what leads to a win and why you didn’t win and nothing blizz makes will fix that just frame it different so you can find some other way to hate it.
2-2-2 is going to be the death of OW for me and screw the community that backs it.
Won’t DPS queue times be huge in an enforced 2-2-2? I main support so I’m all for it but let’s be real, people outside of high masters and GM won’t wait 25 minutes for a game and I doubt they’ll switch roles either. They’ll just play something else.
On top of that, I enjoy tanking in some maps, healing in others, and DPSing in anothers. For instance, every single time I get queued on Numbani, I’ll instalock Torbjorn. That’s by far my favorite map to play him. On the other hand, I prefer tanking in Rialto and I only pick another here there if someone else picks tank faster than me, or if I’m solo tanking alongside solo healer (I don’t mind 3 DPS, but a 4-DPS team is better served with 2 offensive healers and no tank).
I keep asking for a “flex option” on role queue, and that it would only be possible if your three role SR are close enough to each other (ie, no GM DPS Gold support flexing on diamond), and that would give the advantage that you would have no hero locked. Keep the queue at 1-1-1-3, and if there is not enough flex players queueing, start trading the flex slots into a 2-2-2 over time.
You remember that the main issue with the No-limits was stalling, right?
There was no “super duper team comp of six Soldiers” running around, and even a full bunker team, like a bunch of Torbs/Sym were easily defeated by running six counters as well. The main issue was with the players swapping into a bunch of Mei at the last point and simply stalling forever.
That’s why the same patch notes that gave us 1-hero-limit also made two major changes to how Overtime works: Making the defense team spawn slower if the point is being contested for too long, and making the overtime clock run out faster as time pass by.
They could had fixed that by other means, like making Mei no longer contest while cryo-frozen. But they opted to simply prevent six Mei freezing on the point in alternate periods.
The issues with no-limits were very different from the issues of the people asking for 2-2-2, which mostly came as a cry for goats. Goats isn’t an issue per se. Stale metas are the issue, and it was also happening back on the time of dive. Role queue, if anything, will ensure metas will stagnate for longer because you removed options for counterplay. Eg, the first viable anti-goats comp were seem in stage 1, which was a 4-DPS-Mercy-WB attack team.
You sure are good at writing hypotheticals!
No better then the people who hypothesize that 2-2-2 will fix things.
What rank are you in competitive, the game mode, where this feature is going to be implemented?
I love these attempts to gatekeep conversation. Don’t like my argument? Better try and disregard it with irrelevant information.
