Peel.
Turn around and kill the flanker trying to kill your Mercy first, then engage the front line and watch your enemy lose to your unfair 6v5 push.
Mercy one-tricks aren’t usually much of a problem, unless you get two together on a team, but even then, Moira often works for one of them to play.

A 2:1 ratio between most and second most played hero doesn’t seem like a one trick to me.

One tricking/permalocking is the only thing that makes me beyond annoyed in this game. Some maps are irritating to play, some hero engagements, etc etc. I can’t understand how this game can be literally DESIGNED with hero swapping in mind and 6 years in people STILL refuse to do it? How? Is it just pure stubbornness? How can you get any enjoyment out of ruining the game for others, feeding over and over, or being b***ed at in comms game after game? Just goto Quick Play or Arcade and you can literally do whatever you want. Nobody will bother you.
I look at permalocks like VHS tapes, like “holy crap they still make you???”

The ranked system encourages one tricking, because you’ll be better and more likely to win on your comfort pick than on a hero you’re not familiar with.
This is reason number too many to count why adding ranked mode to a casual game was the dumbest idea ever, and had been the source of most of the game’s problems.

i’m just really best at dva and really have fun with her. when the other tanks are more like offtanks i’ll probably pick up a bit more time on things like zarya, sig, rein, but i just saw a flying mech with gattling gun arms, which i was making legos of as a child, and never looked back.
i’ve never experienced gameplay like dva’s, either in this game or outside of it. I played some sigma and zarya during the year dva was literally unplayable, i have earned the right to play some dva again and get it out of my system. and my winrates on her are doubledigits better than on the others, so why not?
what do you care? literally anything in this game can be played so long as you get to that 5v6. less thinking about what others are playing, more thinking about who on their team is a threat, who needs peels, who on their team is out of position, and who you can help punish.

Not a one trick, but I always found this attitude halarious. If this person is at your rank and one tricking an off meta hero, and you are swapping and metaslaving ur rear off, think about how much more skilled and talented that person is compared to you XD.

This a team comp whose only threat is torb.
Most Tracer-Sombra comps currently have no counter.
The counter comp, as used and abused by the owl players:
Orisa D.va
Bap Brig
Torb Cree
None of those heroes are hard to play. This comp absolutely dumpsters flankers of all sorts, especially tracer sombra.

I like playing against my counters as a one trick and proving them wrong. One match I killed Pharmercy as Sym on my own by them entering my car wash at high ground and some right clicks. It felt amazing.

Funny you say this and then complain about Mercy because since she’s so popular her players are going to have more experience having to pick an offrole than I would if I was instalocking someone less popular yet meta like Bap. But I’ll bet you wouldn’t complain if I was a Bap OTP.
