As the title states, I believe unless you have a certain degree of understanding and skill of your character then one tricking in competitive games only goes to hurting your team. Especially in lower elos where it’s quite definite that you don’t play nor understand how to use this character.
I understand the only way to learn is practice, but if your knowledge and mechanical skills are that poor, why not practice in QP or other modes made for that purpose. The biggest offenders of this I see are tanks.
I play all three roles. With tank being my highest in diamond. On my legacy account I never got it past plat 3. Now I’m leveling my plat account and for the most part I can fill in whatever role is needed if let’s say the other dps is lacking or the supports are having a hard time.
Tanks in this rank however are some of the worst one tricks I’ve ever seen. It’s not some all around good pick either or one with utility like sigma. It’s almost always JQ, Roadhog and the worst of all doom fist. It’s not just that they don’t know how to take space nor sustain themselves oh no, they can’t even use their character well.
I’ve had a horrid streak of doom fist mains this week. Doesn’t matter if it’s payload maps, push maps, brawl maps, or even if we defend or attack they won’t switch. They do horribly, most of the time dying before the rest of the team gets to the objective. They use both slam and punch to engage and instantly use guard.
My issue is why are you here in my comp game, with worse understanding of doom than I had back when I was in silver. If the game isn’t going in a direction you can pull any value out of doom. Why stay on doom? If anything swap to someone just to take some space.
