One shot mechanics

Good for the game? yes/no… discuss

Yes
I know is frustrating but… Yes
Snipers deserve it
That said, Hanzo is not a sniper but shhhhh

No, there is zero counter play for zero time to retaliate.
I know I exaggerated a bit but it’s so annoying. Especially when it’s bound to their gun and not their abilities.

Snipers deserve to instakill you with a headshot since it takes skill, it has been like that in every aingle FPS game.

I dont think so. Snipers are fine but something like Doomfist is just a pain…

One Shots, especially in Overwatch are a highly questionable mechanic. The main question here being how much value should one player be able to extract from decent Mechanics in a 6v6 Environment. A lucky or consistent Sniper can send a team back quite a long time with pick-offs especially given Overwatch’s Map Geometry and lack of cover for players to exploit in order to protect themselves without Barriers.

(Valve actually highly questioned if Sniper belonged in TF2 given how powerful he could be with a decent player, but decided to go with it anyhow. But added windows and more cover players couldn’t shoot through in order to limit his power.)

One shot should be in the game. Tho, a lot of them should not.

Reinhardt’s charge has a very large hitbox that will kill anyone that’s somewhat near the location of the charge. I can’t tell you how many times I dropped down from a superjump and got charged immediately.
This is why it should do 100 damage but more on tanks. This makes it so it’s not possible to combo with a charge and a primary. Mercy may still be able to GA away.

Hanzo is another one. He doesn’t take aim at all. All you need to do is to look at the general direction of the enemy and it will most likely hit. His accuracy needs to be nerfed if it’s going to be one-shot but otherwise it shouldn’t be one-shot.

Ranged Oneshots, Poke damage = Ult charge, and some forms of ranged CC are the reasons why we have a game that’s so dependant on barrier tanks.

Whether that’s good or bad, dunno.

The problem is the frequency they can be applied that offers few counterplays.

Widowmaker yes, Hanzo No he is literally spamming, whenever i see hanzo kill cams i puke, they didnt even aim for you its random spam, i play him too and you are sure to get 2-3 kills atleast just spamming every round. This may seem trivial but its huge in a game.
Even when you aim its not tough like widowmaker you just predicat a place and spam or use sonic.
He is not the easiest hero but at the same time he isnt skill intensive like widow to get these one shots.

Also peek shooting a widow has to peek see target and hit, this guy has sonic arrow charge shoot, he doesnt even has to peek for long just spam and one of the other will hit or even if you didint kill u have zoned enemy.

With his mobility and sonic utility he should be a two shot hero like cree or ashe.

Yes, but it has to be earned with skill or risk.

I can understand widow, but that’s about it IMO.

Some games snipers can 1 shot body shot, but those snipers are also far more punishing to miss with.

God… Such a crappy question because it never feels good, but it teaches you so much about positioning and awareness.

Doomfist, rocket punch… Really annoying, but really wouldn’t highlight, “Why were you standing there?” If it didn’t kill you.

Hanzo random headshot… They’re projectile because it’s high damage area denial. Same thing… “Why were you standing there?” And, “Why didn’t you reposition?”

Widowmaker headshot, part of it, you have to be impressed with the player, but also, “Why were you standing there?” As well as, “Where is your cover and where are you?”

As much as I hate the effect of them, I don’t think they’d stress the importance of positioning if they didn’t kill me.

They belong in games like CS or COD where every weapon can be used by every player and there are large drawbacks of using sniper rifles, i.e sacrificing mobility. One shots that are very loud and predictable (doom punch, rein charge) are balanced because you can react to them. Widowmaker and to a lesser extent Hanzo should not have their one shots because they have so much mobility, and you cannot react to it, you find out where the sniper is once they’ve already gotten a kill, kind of ridiculous

basically accurate all around

one shots are fine

snipers are fine

hanzo, however, is overall an absolute mess in concept

rant there's no reason for a "sniper" to be allowed to fight toe to toe with a tank or other close range heroes due to having no scoping mechanic reducing their vision

not to mention the 0 cooldown on vertical movements, and one of the fastest recharging horizontal movements in the entire game, literally i think it’s only surpassed by Mercy’s Guardian Angel at 2s and Tracer’s blink at 3s, where his is 5s

this is on top of having projectiles, which, people can argue all they want about “smallest projectiles in the game” but it’s still a projectile nonetheless, causing his actual hitboxes to be the entire length of the trajectory, which makes his shots more lenient, and even further encouraging the spam he can get by, oh, right, the next point

absolutely no reload, causing little to no downtime and no time to react in between a damaging phase and a cooldown phase other than drawing the bow back, which??? like, no, i’ve literally seen people argue that his charge up is supposed to be his “reload”, like, no, a “slow RoF” (which .80s per shot isn’t “slow”) that can still deal that much damage with fast moving projectiles can’t be compared to not reloading, like, at the slightest at all

and then a barrier buster ability?
like, again, hello, a sniper

the two things that should be your bane are barriers and someone that can get near you without you killing them if you don’t outplay them with your own mobility skill

i mean, it’s perfectly fine for other heroes to have huge drawbacks and counters, but the minute you mention a drawback for a sniper it turns into “but muh damage is my only thing i have you can’t shut that down”

meeeeeEEEHH
honestly

i find it okay

the only biggest problem i have with it is that it’s completely silent

visuals included

let people know they can be seen

otherwise it’s fine for an ability, with everything else that goes on in this game

Depends. Instakill combo on a hero who’s counter is dive? No. One shot on rocket punch on a 4 second cooldown? Not at all.

One shot on snipers? Yes. One shot on charge? Yes.
