Hey everyone,
Something amazing has happened for me personally today. I have just graduated from college. It is a really weird feeling now that I think about it. I am reflecting on how Overwatch and, more importantly, the overall Blizzard community really was the biggest factor that made me really think about going back to school. Before returning to college, I was kind of at a dead-end with my life and career. It was less than two years before I quit my previous job, and I knew I wanted a career change, though I did not know what I exactly know what I want to do. Overwatch came about in 2016, and I picked it up on a whim on launch day and became hooked. Nearly got banned in season 2 due to technical issues, but used the experience to start helping others on Twitter and on the forums. Around Overwatch’s 1st anniversary, Blizzard Customer Service invited me to become a tech support forum MVP. Since then, I have helped thousands of players enjoy Overwatch more. That means something to me.
I was engaged in helping others enjoy great games, and I wanted my career to reflect that. So in the Fall of 2017, I enrolled at The Art Institutes to pursue a degree in Graphic Design. This may seem like a curious choice, but I saw it as the perfect blend between pursuing passions in art, video games, and helping others. This is because graphic design is about delivering visual solutions that I understand and feel engaged in. It has been a busy three and a half years of online learning, and it came with a lot of hardships and challenges. I earned my place in two honor societies and maintained a 4.0 GPA. The biggest obstacle was finding a new school after The Art Institutes went into bankruptcy in early 2019. I finished my education at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design, which turned out to be a great experience in the long run.
Now I look to the future and how that will affect my time playing this great game and spending time here in this community. For the short term, well… I CAN PLAY EIGHT HOURS STRAIGHT OF OVERWATCH AGAIN! Lol. I am not sure if I will do that much right away. I am still finishing up on some details with my portfolio and trying to get through the holidays. However, I think I will now have the time and opportunity to be here and provide to this community where I think I can. I hope to use my skills to provide more content to help all of you enjoy this game more. Whether it be videos, threads here on the forums, or things like my Dropswatch project on Twitter, I am still happy to provide what I can to this community.
Will it last? I don’t know. I want to find more exciting career opportunities that surround my skills in graphic design and my passion for great games. This may mean one day, I will find a position that will require me to focus time and attention on something other than Overwatch or this community. In any case, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has supported me as a forum MVP and as a member of this community. Again, I am not going anywhere right away. I am just sharing my excitement about this personal achievement. 2020 was an insanely rough year for all of us, but for me, I see 2021 as the start of something exciting.
Cheers everyone! (^^)v
