Firstly, I’d love the devs to try and give her 55 base heals, 60 was too much apparently and 50 was, at one point, too small(FYI, before all these DPS buffs).
But the argument I often see is “mercy players think the person they latch onto should be invincible”. I understand what they mean in a sense: no, no hero should be “invincible” just because they are being healed. But… 50hps/55hps isn’t exactly difficult to out damage, the lowest DPS in the game is Moira with 50 DPS. Not only that, if a mercy is healing someone who’s being attacked by a DPS, then doesn’t that mean it’s a 2v1? The mercy and her ally SHOULD have the upper hand, not because they are invincible, but because they are winning by numbers.
Edit: and I mean literally TRY, put it on PTR and see how it goes, it could be a happy medium or it could turn at a tad too much, won’t know till we try
I am not fond of the argument of buffing her heals when she already has high healing but also more utility than the actual pure healer.
Mercy has a lot baked into her kit that could be both main healer based, and off healer.
Upping her healing without flat nerfing other things is entirely unfair imo especially since she isn’t underperforming.
Part of that performance is by design. Valk is a terrible ult imo. But it’s still making her highly valuable as a support to have both roles baked into her kit.
Her numbers aren’t terrible I’ll agree, really the only rank she shines in as the “best overall healer” is bronze/silver slightly.
We’ve seen that nerfing her Valk is actually what drove her overall heals down hugely, which is why they buffed her back up.
I’d be A-okay if some power was taken away from Valk to give to base mercy. I’ve often thought it’d be cool if they made her main beam in Valk 65/70 and then nerfed the chains to 50.
Honestly, not a bad change imo. It’s not like Valk heals are great for focus fire anyway and 5 less for it wouldn’t be horrible, it’s mostly for AoE heals/boost
At 55 he’d still be able to outdamage her heals, rn he can only do 10 more anyways.
