I honestly feel like this would be a worthwhile inclusion in the game with the only conceivable downside being some effort on the part of the devs to implement it.
The default setting (much like a persons voice chat) would be set to listen, so people could be allowed to respectfully display the lines they earned through lootboxes.
People can spam to themselves as much as they like to their hearts content. I see no reason to change the current anti-spam mechanics.
It would cut down on ways to demonstrate “salt” or “toxicity”. If a person is being toxic, to the point of distraction, I mute them. If a person is spamming the same line over and over again, I am forced(In comp anyway) to listen to the same line for sometimes up to 15 minutes.
At this point in time it can be comparable to gameplay sabotage. It might not have the immediate impact of a Mei icewall in the spawn, but is it any less damaging if I can’t hear an ult activation? It certainly harms my ability to play to play the game when taken to extremes. If I wasn’t listening for sound cues, I could likely zone it out but I’m actively trying to listen above the same line over and over again. The volume on these lines is the same as the very cues I’m listening for.
Please Blizzard, I know you have at least some opinions on spam or it wouldn’t be listed as one of only a handful of options for reporting people. Just let us be done with having to listen to it. It literally can not hurt in the slightest.
I had a Moira on the enemy team that kept spamming her “Slainte” voicelines the entire match and I couldn’t play well enough because after listening to it for a solid minute keeping a straight face I started laughing the entire duration of the match, and we lost. Blizzard pls nerf.
if its just voice lines sure, but not all coms. Too many healers would just mute voice lines because they for some reason want to play support but don’t want to hear I need healing.
Sometimes people are behind me and I cant tell if they need healing so depriving myself of hearing my allies saying they need healing would only be a hinderance.
What I suggest would be a toggle mute on each individual person, something a healer is not likely to bother with unless the person is spamming “I need healing”.
Right now the only way to not hear a person spamming “I need healing” is to switch off of healer, which I have done in several games after politely asking the person to stop, and often times explaining that I’m the only healer.
Which is worse, getting muted and not getting healed as often, or having no healer and not getting healed at all?
When I do play healer I find that people using the button correctly helps quite a bit, as asking for healing over the mic doesn’t let me know who you are or give me a visible indicator.
That isn’t always the case, especially if there is only one healer. Sorry, but you’re wrong here, and wrong to take out your frustrations on someone if you’re one of the spammers.
youre wrong here if you think you should be able to soft throw games because you find something frustrating, sorry if someone is saying I need healing, they probably need healing.
If they need healing they will be able to ask for it. The vast majority of the time this function will only be denied to them if they are abusing it. If they are abusing it they are likely not not get healed anyway, or incite the person into switching off of healer altogether.
The “I need healing” isn’t needed, actually. The healer can see the life of all heroes already and the spamming of this line disturbs more than help. (and if you close the chat, this become muted along of all other coms lines anyway)
First of all, this mute option is an… option! if you don’t want to mute, you just don’t do it. It becomes a choice, not an obligatory thing. I play supp a lot and I really don’t need the com to heal my team. Besides, if the option covers each player separately, you will mute just the trolls and leave the good few players in normal mode.
Not the case at all. If you know what c4 and trolls stands for, you will know that there are people that spam just to be annoying and make you quit or switch.
Many times, I face people that have been punished for many reports and can’t access the chat, so they just join the game with a smurf or something unimportant and keep spamming all the coms and voice lines they want with no pause all the match.
And I know my heals are really good, because many of those times another teammates tell me so. So, yes, they only use it to annoy someone. AND if it is the case the heals aren’t good, spam isn’t still good at all. Spam is in report already, Blizz condemns it, just have to facilitate for good players to mute the bad ones.
YOU ARE WRONG. Patience has its limits and trolls shouldn’t be rewarded. If the team doesn’t play together, there’s no team at all to begin with and don’t deserve to win. It’s easy to say when you aren’t a healer or plays in closed stack, but when you face the solo Q, you are doomed to face trolls almost every match.
If you don’t know, OW is still a game and must be fun. If it isn’t fun, no one is obligated to play. So, the person joins the match, hoping to have some fun and keep getting spams, becomes a not-so-fun game to play, the person quits. It’s that simple.
Adding a toggle is simple too and blocks all the trolls. The player have fun, doesn’t want to quit or “soft quit” and gives his best. Problem solved.
nobody said anything about soft throwing, but you think you should be able to just not hear people who need healing. LUL. how about those who say I need healing preemptively when they are gonna jump in with an ult, or know they have a lot of damage about to come? Your logic is that of a low silver player, theres a reason people say I need healing preemptively, perhaps you just lack the game sense and awareness to know this, so you just think its spamming? if a genji is full and saying I need healing, he probably wants an orb or mercy so he can ult. pharah probably wants a damage boost for ult, rien may be about to charge or swing his hammer. there are many situations people need healing preemptively, you not knowing doesn’t make it spamming.
look up, yall have no idea what you are talking about. if people are spamming I need healing its probably because youre a bad healer, nobody wants to intentionally piss off their healer in a serious game, youre just not doing your job.
What are you even talking about? Not one of those situations involves spamming. In a “serious game” that person would ask for a pocket over comms if they need it, and there is nothing wrong with that.
When I’m talking about spam I’m not talking about someone hitting the button twice in a row before a team fight, or maybe after they died, or sandwiched in between their ultimate status. I’m talking about the people who get mad that we lost first point then hit the button as often as they can for the rest of the match.
We obviously have different ideas of what spam is, and ironically your concept seems much more lenient than mine. If the person is trying to use the chat commands to display salt, I want to be able to remove their ability to do so. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
An alternative to muting, maybe increase the duration between cooldowns of the voiceline?
The other wheel interactions could be reduced too maybe. I haven’t seen to many opinions on that one.
Seeing Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!
or I need healing! I need healing! I need healing! I need healing!
spammed every 6 seconds is just as annoying as voicelines.
