So i have my main account which is sitting at Masters 4, for a long time in OW2 id just do my placements, get diamond, be done. Didnt start taking comp seriously again until OW2.
Start of OW2 main account gets placed plat, so i work my way up Masters, and those games were the hardest damn overwatch games i have ever played in my life. I knew i was a good player so even now on my main ill get put in plat games, and still lose veen though i know i am not a plat player.
Fast forward to today, finally decide to see where my fresh alt would get me placed. Easiest games of my life and i get put GM 3, and even did two more card rotations to see if it was a fluke but stayed at GM 3.
So what gives? Why are the games on my main x20 harder and it seems like its impossible for me to climb out of masters, but on my alt i can play GM games just fine.

Iâm tempted to try this too just to see, but Iâm on console so Iâm not sure how easy it is to just start a new account without paying for a new XBL account.
Whatever advantage Iâd gain in matchmaking would cancel out by using a controller on PC. Haha.

It would sound like a conspiracy but one would assume your main is tainted with past game performance evaluations that might not have been good.
My alt also got better games in the beginning. Good even games from both sides.
But the âarguistsâ (might show up shortly) will say play more games to have a larger sample size.

But ive played close to 100 games now on my alt, and all of them save a few are just infinitely better than any game on my main.
It feels like the masters games i have on main are hard mode. Even in qp. Both qp and comp on alt feel so much better.
It has to be something i swear.

not really much we can do about it but there is one thing i would recommend trying if you really donât feel like the grind. you can abuse how certainty works by just playing on the alt for a while
play on the alt for a few seasons, let the matchmaking certainty of the main acc decay. no comp on main. then after a while, come back and duo w/ someone on main, guarantee a winstreak
itâll inflate your mmr very easily, then you just have to avoid torped*ing your rank for a few days and it should settle.

Ive countered it a bit on my main by playing till i lose a game, then taking a couple days break from comp.
MMR needs a lot of games to figure out a player level. Devs mentionned it several times.
So new accounts move faster than old ones. The more you play, the more precise MMR should get but also the slower it will move afterwards.
I have been bronze in OW1. It took me hundreds of games to get Gold⊠Even session like 4-1 wouldnât raise my rank, I had to do 15-0.
About matchmaking, its clearly written in the game you can be matched with 2 ranks above or under you. So from Master, you can be matched with Plat/Diamond Or Diamond/GM.
There might be a restriction so you wouldnât get plat players. I canât verify that right now.

This isnt correct. You can group within 1 skill tier if youâre masters. So in no way should someone in plat be in the same lobby as someone in masters.

On my old account that I have from the very beginning of ow1 can not get out of the plat. On the new account after 5 matches I landed in diamond 3. Now I am in master 2 on alt account. And I agree that games in masters seem much easier to win than in plat, I feel that I have some influence on the outcome especially since I play mostly support. It seems to me that in the beginning the mmr fluctuation is bigger, so on an old account the game thinks you belong to a certain rank and if you donât make 75% wins you can forget about getting out of low elo. Which to me seems the biggest flaw in the current system because it rewards nothing for learning the game and getting better at it. In addition, on the lower ranks you play all the time with people who have just started the adventure with this game. Low ranks are just pure mess. For example, yesterday I made 10-2 on my main account and moved only one division up from plat 4 to plat 3, it is just discouraging.

Im surprise to not see nay sayers in this thread tbh. Is this the proof we needed?
GM can only queue within 4 skill tiers ! Masters is slightly more flexible with being allowed to queue one rank above or below !

Definally, I used to throw back in ow1. After ow2, I was helping my bronze friend to climb by playing together. Her account is also old account, but she only had around 100hr, where mine had about 2k. When we climbing both playing supports, I noticed that sometimes, she rank up quicker than Iâm, even tho I have significantly better stats in pretty much every category. I noticed that I need about at least 60% or higher winrate to climb, but she just need 50%. When we got 5-1 or 5-0 winstreak, I only climb one rank, but she got two. After she tried solo queuing at diamond 4, and went 5-14, she dropped a whole rank to plat 4 lolđ
Ooooh oooh! I know the answer! Itâs because the matchmaking is completely and utterly broken. Iâve had the identical experience as you along with countless others.
When you have a garbage matchmaker that tries to make every game a 50/50 match then OF COURSE you will have pockets of ELO hell. The system recognizes youâre a smurf in plat and so it finds other smurfs in plats, or just places you with awful teammatesâŠso it leaves you in plat where the only way you can win a match is to play like a GM since thatâs what it has you ranked as with MMR. DURRRR, the devs are air headed.

Right now I canât even get matched. 30 mins for flex all-roles queue with mmr somewhere in the middle of all players. The largest pool and impossible queue times.
I should have access to the entire playerbase but this is a rigged/fake scam that is certifiably dead.

The more solid proof I would like to see is a well known GM player, like a streamer, failing to rank up a hard stuck account. I can see why nobody has tried though, it would require much more effort than playing on a new account and would probably also be less popular.
I had the same experience. This was my first ever PC game, so my main was in silver/gold for quite some time. After a couple of years playing I started a new account, placed diamond. peaked masters even. I dont get it. It seems like blizz likes to keep accounts where they are unless you have EXTREME skill to hard carry to solo climb. idk.

I am a high plat/ low diamond player. Currently i am a silver 5 on this account.
I shift between suspensions, silencings and dumbass teams on this account.
It literally makes now difference how i perform.
I have had games doing 32 to 2, and my team will still manage to lose.
When we are clearly winning they c9 or they switch to Widow, Kiriko or Moira.
We get a tank who decides Rein is a good opponent facing Orisa.
And when all is going well ⊠somebody leaves or disconnects.
