Orisa, Baptiste, Genji, Brigitte, D.Va, Wrecking Ball, and Echo have no Christmas skin. I really don’t understand why. This year’s Halloween event gave all the remaining heroes with no Halloween skin one, why not Winter? Admittedly, my personal desire for this is because I’d like to have a full roster of skins for my favourite holiday, but I do feel bad for the mains of the 7 heroes that lack one, especially D.Va and Genji who are not only really popular but have been in the game since launch. I’m usually not one to complain about this kind of thing, I suppose it really doesn’t matter, it just feels very disappointing and easy to avoid. I would’ve happily settled for simple recolours like Lucio and Moira’s first Christmas skins, but you put all your resources towards heroes who all already had one. I’ve been saving credits for this since March, lol.
Whatever, I’ll probably stop caring about this in a few hours and its not an issue that really needs to be “addressed”, but it just rubs me the wrong way and I felt the need to make a post about it.
I sincerely hope the dev team has a good Christmas and a happy new year.
The art team doesn’t give skins to heroes that need them, they said it before, they just make whatever they come up with. Making the more popular ones get skins.
I understand that, and thats been fine every other year, but since this year the number of remaining heroes was so achievable, and again they did do it for Halloween, I was just expecting it.
To be fair, this is a double standard. There will always be events where some heroes don’t (currently) have skins and there are events where these heroes have skins that other heroes don’t.
That being said, I would’ve killed for ugly sweater D.Va or ornament Wrecking Ball.
Looking at the results of what they did do this year, I’m honestly glad they passed over so many of the needy heroes. The best designers clearly weren’t working this time around.
Yeah, I love being able to put on all my holiday gear for Halloween and Winter Wonderland. It always feels a little sad when your character is running around in a regular skin, lol.
The only people who should be mad are Orisa mains. Echo is still new and for a summer skin. Baptiste and Brig also got summer skins.
Orisa is hard to design for which I understand, but reindeer is such an easy concept. She also has the lowest event skin releases. Every post launch hero except for Baptiste, Echo, and ball have more skins than her despite coming out before Moira, Ashe, Brig, Doomfist, Sigma.
Can’t imagine they’ll give her a lunar New Years skin.
Not sure why people thought genji or dva were going to get skins… they literally just got Halloween skins
I don’t really understand why they gave the skins to the heroes they did, though. Junkrat and Roadhog both have three Winter skins now. Meanwhile, Genji hasn’t gotten an event epic since the first Summer Games, I believe? Torb and Zen have two winter legendaries now, but Ashe and Pharah only have epics.
I can understand Mei since her older legendary isn’t quite legendary, and I’m glad to see Rein and Moira getting skins of any kind, but Zen, Torb, Hog and Junk all have pretty good skins for this event and I can’t understand why 6/8 skins are for heroes that already had skins.
I mean I understand that their process for making skins almost entirely revolves around the ideas that the artists conjure up. They don’t arbitrarily give a certain hero a certain type of skin at a certain time - they’re just very talented and creative people who come up with whacky ideas and they put them in the game when they can.
I just thought that this time they’d take the aproach of filling out the hero roster because it seemed like thats what they did for Halloween this year; every hero has at least one halloween skin now. I expected the same for Christmas, I was wrong. Oh well.
As I said in other threads its more about fixing events period. The fact that Genji and D.va have not got skins sets a precedent that people aren’t ok with of time passed without skin. If we don’t tell blizzard how we feel 5 year droughts for heroes could become a new norm. No one wants that. This affects all heroes and is a problem for them all and why looking at just this year is a problem.
This is exactly why I am disappointed. Now I have concerns for other heroes who haven’t got an event skin for future events also not getting one. When Halloween showed they knew there was a problem and working on it. Such a disappointing step back.
Oher heroes are not exempt from getting multiple skins in a row, so idk why characters like dva should be either.
Mccree always got multiple skins in a row just because.
Dva mains are used to having one skin max per year quota, since we understand it’s hard to design something for two characters at once. Orisa players are getting the shaft though.
If and when skin designing goes into the direction of “I can’t think of any skins for this character but oh I can think 10 skins for mccree so I’m going to do those skins instead”, it’s becoming favouritism. When one character doesn’t get any skins for 3 years, you know they prioritise incorrectly and it needs to be changed.
